Do you still live in your hometown? Why or why not?

Question

I'm from a big city, and I've been through all the levels of school and work without ever have a reason to move to a new city. By now, I couldn't imagine leaving, just because all of my loved ones, family and friends, are here.

Do you guys still live in your hometowns or not? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your decision?

My hometown is an utter shithole stuck between NYC and D. C. on the East Coast full of the sh*ttiest, most awful, dumbest morons and hicks in the entire country outside of California. Hell, we WERE the California of the East Coast, but without the phony bullsh*t. Basically, it's the "authentic" version of southern California; the same idiotic Liberal bullsh*t, but without the hygiene, glamour, vanity, or sex appeal. A place where everyone looks homeless, EVERYONE is proudly obese (not shaming obesity, but they are PROUDLY so, while I've struggled to try to lose weight my whole life), everyone smells like sh*t, and everyone is an utter a**hole.

Unless it's to get my things back there, or I end up homeless and have to move in with my sister, I am NEVER going back to the sh*thole town of Philadelphia ever again. It's like all the worst parts of Detroit, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cleveland, Memphis, and Houston, topped off with a putrid diarrhea sh*t-sundae on top. God I hate every single motherf*cker from that piss-toilet of a city. It's one of the only places where I can syat THE PEOPLE are its biggest problem. Just the biggest assholes outside of Twitter or Cali you'll ever meet.

I left and came back. I lived in ( I think ) 18 towns/cities and 10 states. I've lived in my home town a few different times also. Now I'm here to stay.

I think the bottom line is that it's just part of who I am. I liked a lot of other places I lived, and liked the experience of living different places even more. But ultimately none of those places were home.

Most of the people I've known the longest have scattered around the country. But there are still a couple of family members, plus neighbors and friends I've known for 40-50 years. From people who were older than me when I was young, to people who are younger than me now, I've seen seven generations on my street.

I was born & raised in the San Francisco County part of the Bay Area. However, I moved out & stayed away for 19 years while living in the Philippines (which is in South East Asia). My boyfriend followed me there and stayed with me for many years 'til we felt homesick. So, in 2019, we both returned to the USA, got married and settled in the Santa Clara county part of the Bay Area. It's a bit different but also pretty much the same. We're still not dead set on living here forever though. We're thinking about moving south as long as were near the California coast. Bottomline is: California is home and where we wanna be.

Yea i still live here but want to move. The pay is not enough, the job opps are low, and my fam sees me as an ATM. I want to move to Charlotte NC but thats as far north as im willing to go. Its still technically the south and i prefer to live there or in Georgia. I can afford to leave but keep debating on when to because this pandemic makes me uncomfortable and I don't know if im ready to work in person again

It's funny I might live very close. I tried to remember the first place I was brought to as a child and I seem to remember it was somewhere in round lake il and oddly enough that's where I am not by choice but by coincidence. I've lived most of my childhood and all of teenage years at one apt in mundelein and switched to another apt in mundelein for basically all of my 20s. Now I'm back in the round lake area. So while I don't exactly live in my hometown I still kinda do 😅

I don't live in my hometown- I live about 80 miles away from it in a larger metro area. Its nice to be close to home for family, but far enough away that I don't have to deal with townies. Also the larger city affords more conveniences and job opportunities.

My city whas Pitesti, it's a small city whit 200.000 population
I can pass the city by walking in 2/3 hours.
Ther are a lot of old people today and ther is nothing much that you can do in the night.
Moust of the time is a sliance, calm city.
The biggest atraction in ther are the football team F. C. Arges, a ex communist jail that is not uset today anymore, the central street and the river Arges.

Nah, getting out of my born hometown was probably the best decision I ever made in my life.

A new chapter going a bit far away for University, and being forced to doing things on my own and re-creating a new friend and relationship network. I get along well with my parents and friends back at home, and I live in another big city now so it's just as good.

When I was growing up I didn’t notice my town that much, it just was. Now I have seen a lot of places and I wouldn’t move there. I don’t think it was the best place for me to grow up but it made me who I am which I like. I wouldn’t raise my kids there though.

No, moved out after highschool. My hometown was a twin of 1200 with no work and 3 hours from
anything. Fun place to grow up, but there’s no future there. Everyone leaves, some come back eventually but not many.
City I’m in now is much like what you describe, pretty much everyone I’ve met here lives within walking distance of where their great grandparents lived and has no intention of going anywhere. Very strange atmosphere compared to what I’m used to

I still live in my hometown but I do want to leave. It’s advantageous in regards everyone I know lives here and I have everything within my hometown (job, education etc.) but I would like to live somewhere else for the experience.

Yeah I do, I did move away for a couple of years but had to move back. I wouldn't mind moving out of my hometown but I wouldn't want to move too far. I'd like to live somewhere out of the way, like the countryside or similar

I left and was gone for 9 years and then I came back. I might leave again if a good opportunity comes along, but I don't feel like I necessarily have to. I got the wanderlust out of my system.

I was forcibly dragged from my hometown (Germany) into the poor east over 2000 kilometers away when I was 15.

I am looking for a job back in Germany still. I need to get back there and make more money and live happy.

Hell no. I grew up in California and like millions of other Californians, I have fled that fucked up liberal hell hole and never looked back. There is a good reason why there has been a mass exodus from California going on for the past few years. What a fucked up mess of a state.

I still work in my hometown, but I moved out to the suburbs. There are a lot of good jobs here and I mostly like the region. In a way, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
