None of the above. I live in what in the US we refer to as a "census designated place". Our address is the closest town, but we're technically our own community, separate from the town limits. But we don't have our own city hall or post office, which is why we aren't considered a town. We're part of the county's jurisdiction.
In Europe, we'd probably just be considered a village.

A city though the suburb I live in styles itself as a global village. Melbourne has been described as a collection of villages and to some degree that is true - certainly there are street signs to so n so village. However some are more villagy then others and people do refer to them as so n so village.

It's called ''Palm Hill Village''
and indeed, there are two or three palms on our hill.
But I would not call it a village --- just a group of houses that is located NEAR a village.
...
which since a week now has TWO ''supermarkets'' (of the smaller kind)

I live in a city, but it's in the south, so it's more like a big small town. If you don't like Mother Nature, your other option is watching people go to church and raise children. Or if you like swimming and being surrounded by tobacco fields for two hours, you can drive to the beach.

In Canada we call it the suburbs. Although less than 10 mins from my house is a small village. And 30(ish) minutes is a big city.
