Do you work more than 8 hrs a day, sometimes even on weekends? Don't you think this work culture should be put to a halt?

I work 32 hours in two days every weekend, two 16 hour shifts. I have 5 days off every week and I'm happy.
My pay is multiplied by 1.5 for hours after 8, and by 2 for hours after 12. So 32 hours every weekend looks like this:
16 hours paid regular rate
8 hours paid at 1.5 overtime rate
8 hour paid at double rate
Equivalent to
16 hours + (8*1.5 = 12) + (8*2=16) = 44 hours of regular rate
I work 32 hours, yet get paid as if I worked 44. Plus I did it all in two days instead of drawn out in 5 days.
If you don't want to work so much, then you better be rich or get paid more. It's the way the world works because the rich people don't want to work, so they have to take some profit off of your labor. If you don't like it, then what can you do?
I've noticed Oregon for example put a law that in manufacturing companies they can't have employees work more then 60hrs a week. Some people rely on overtime to get by or make extra money. I honestly think there should be a law in place everywhere to limit how many hours a week we work. Some people are working their lives away barely having a life outside of work. As for work put to a halt, no that can't happen. That's not how this world works. We need jobs to make it function and earn money for a living.
10 hours a day.
I do have time for all thats mentioned above, but I do understand what you're saying.
I honestly hate M-F schedule and much prefer panama working 13+ hours a day.
You get more time off that way in between. When I was on shifts I was a lot less stressed and had more time for myself.
Yeah unfortunately at my last two jobs and my current job I usually work more than 84 hours a week. Working remotely during Covid is great as I have a more work/life balance but I know I’ve been working more than when I was in the office.

I am a farmer, I work everyday, I work hoildays, I work when family dies, I work in the rain, I work in the snow, I work when its 30 below zero outside.
I work every freaking day. So quit your fucking bitching and come live my life. Do you think you can spend a week in my shoes? From sun up to sundown, during harvest and planting make that 16hrs to sometimes over night. Freaking city people dont know what real work is.
At least you get days off, If I want a day off I have to pay 3 guys to do the work of me. Yeah, because one guy can't do what I do by himself.
You have your own business and there for can't give your self a holiday from no where you are right. that is what happens when you run your own business and its all on you but the trade off is you are your own boss. but we wanted to apply the holiday pay to your situation you could hire more people to spread the work and when you need a day off have someone else take over. yes it is more expensive but that is the point I was making. now I agree non profits and possible small bussiness should get a tax credit for doing it or big companies should just be required to do it and pay for it themselves.
Depends what time you start at. I have a muscle wasting disease and I have been putting in 60+ hours every week for the last 16 years.
I start at 6am, so my 10 hour shifts go to 430pm. Sometimes I put in 12s and even that I get out at 630pm.
I remember one week I put in 84 hours in 7 days and went out every night just to prove you can still have a life.
Not to mention again that I have a muscle wasting disease. It takes my body a while to recover. It’s why once or twice a week I sleep for 10 hours.
Your mind is the most powerful thing.
Work burn out is a real thing. It hurts productively and leads to turn over. It’s alwAys more hours more work done.. but stress can really add up. The us in only major country not to have a national holiday or vacation requirement… apparently we don’t like socialism and we can take care of our selves.. but companies usually don’t give vacations nor sick pay. Even retirement is rare. So we’re screwing our selves over and companies don’t want to pay extra for anything.. god forbid your grandma really does die, but I can go to her funureal cuz working the 8 hours is more important.. or come in with a cold who cares we got fries and burger to make.
I work 10 hours a day, every day
I spend time with my family, see my friends a couple of times a year, cook good food for myself, take care of myself, am fine and dandy on 6 hours sleep, have far more stress when I can't work than when I can... I have very happy... without work I'd be dead already
'Should this working practice stop'
What a bunch of lazy liberal horseshit just like 4 day working weeks, $15 and 4 weeks annual holiday, how about ya still on unemployment and leave the work for those who actually want to do it
Most I've ever got was equal to about $13.50 and that was a day of heavy labouring but my average is under $3 a hour (the glory of self-employment), I take a weeks holiday at most a carry on working and work all 7 days not fcuking four, lazy useless cnuts
I work 4 10 hours days at work (40 hr week), usually a couole of extra hours beyond contracted too.
When not working i havd my kids which is a full time job in itself.
I'm not great with housework but i do chip in doing washjng up, laundry, hoovering etc
Between kids, job and chores i usually start at 6.30am and finish at 9.30pm
I would love to work if there was work. Most work is extremely low quality or just not available. For good work that I want to do which needs being done I would love to. Unfortunately for so many reasons this is not the case. It only grows worse and worse. The result is unhappy, unkind people with no morals, intelligence and poor health.
Pension, full time job, part time job, list of projects in the house, helping kids with homework, make love to my wife and still have time for family time/trips.
It ain't easy but it's hard work and I don't sleep much.
And it's worth it.
Sometimes. Not often at the weekend.
Some people just like to work, some love what they do. Others want to get ahead. This is how it's done.
However, if work is stressing you out or you don't like it, something needs to change. And work/life balance is sometime to consider.
I work a job that requires I be flexible with hours, sometimes late evenings, middle of the night, and weekends. I adjust to give me the time I need for myself.
Yes this is hell and erases the point of our existence.
There is something called personal life where we explore and learn new things, relax, hang out with loved ones or travel.
If we don't address this issue now the pandemic will leave its mark there's already a movement in China called lay down I keep telling y'all people have had enough.
I have my own business, which involves a 24/7 roster and being on call 24/7. Shifts of 12 hours are normal.
In Europe we're looking at the 4 day work week. Preliminary data suggests that fewer hours worked produce more efficient results. Tired workers are simply less productive.
I used to, I'm trying to maintain a 4h work day now though. The hard grind usually just isn't worth it and because I know my time is limited my four hours become extremely productive.
On average I work 12 hrs a day 5-6 days a week. Some days as much as 14-16 hrs.
No I don't work more hours then I get paid and I don't need more hours of work. I rather have more time for myself.
I work long hours but have more days off so it's worth it
Many people had over 18 months of not working because of the pandemic. Things need to get done. Society can't be filled with laziness.
Ehh, I think more rights and local unions should be supported.
Used to work 4-10's but since I started working from home went to 5-8's but no OT on weekends.
