What do you dislike most about the workplace/work world?

Like what do you really hate when you're on the job? Do you feel that your work environment is toxic, gossipy, cutthroat, etc? Some of these things I think are actually a large reason why so many people are quitting their jobs right now.

For me the things I really hate are:
- Co-workers always dating each other (I like what Courtney Ryan said: it's just laziness!)
- Of course the gossipy people. You really have to watch what you say and share with some people because they will spread it around.
- Cliques.
- Employees who get promoted to supervisors when they work the least or don't even know nearly as much as others.

I have more but don't want to drag out a whole list here. I'd rather know what are you guys' pet peeves about the workplace?

- doing my job well seems to mean I’m available to take on additional tasks without appropriate time to do them (I have a hard stop for my work hours unless I’m on call)
- while I actually love working from home I miss the socialisation and intra office communication. Not enough to make me want to head into the office… but it’s definitely made some things harder
- business units not being aligned on projects to give cross over tasks the same priorities. Nothing worse than working my ass off for something to have it held up by another team for weeks

Overall I enjoy my job though, the positives far outweigh the negative

It’s like stress and panic is the standard, if you’re not those things then you can take on more “responsibilities” 🙄

I actually rather like my workplace and my colleagues and miss them deeply. We've all been working exclusively remotely since the social distancing started.

I did have some complaints in the past about bad bosses. For example, I had one who lacked the slightest idea of how to lead. We'd be in a design meeting and everyone would be disagreeing (peacefully) over what idea is best. Then instead of leading and being decisive and resolving the disputes, he'd get impatient and panic and tell us to just pick for him instead of taking responsibility for anything. Sometimes I had to step up and lead in those cases even though that wasn't my job back then. Now that's my job though.

We also did have one gossipper type long ago. She got fired though because she tried to blackmail a former boss when she got caught leaking company IP. She was intolerable to work with and I can no longer stand workplaces like that which get all political and start to involve backstabbing.

One thing that's not so related to the workplace and more just my job though is that I work with a lot of very antisocial people (software engineers) and the extremest of introverts. Meanwhile, I'm the oddball extrovert more into people than things. So I find it kind of hard to click with them sometimes. I tend to get along best with designers and marketing. Yet I've gotten better at working with such types over the years.

With bad bosses, I also had maybe a polar opposite type too before. He did lead in his way, but in the most authoritarian sort of way. He'd be telling everyone, "I need this ASAP!" Then if people were saying, "We need more time," he'd say horrible things like, "Figure out how to do it faster or start looking for a new job." He was still much, much better than the one who didn't lead at all, but still quite unpleasant. I kind of liked him though. He demanded a lot but I found it inspiring to rise to the challenge. Most of my colleagues hated him though.
