Am I being bullied at work?

So I was told by my boss that I don't ask enough questions regarding the job as I am still training.
But whenever I do ask he says that I'm only asking for the sake of asking just to keep him happy.🤨
he's told me that I either improve or I go.
I assumed that I passed probation because the company only starts paying for study fees once you have passed (which is what they're doing) so you cannot let someone just go if they've passed probation right?

Any advice would be really helpful.

Probationary employees can be dismissed without cause: all your boss has to do is wake up in the morning, decide that he no longer wants to see your face... and you're gone.

Passing probation is not a ticket to lifelong employment- even in a government job, it simply means you have met minimum job standards. Now your boss has to have "cause" (a reason) to dismiss you. Issues such as poor job performance are subjective. Issues such as absenteeism or tardiness are easy. Show up every day and on time and you'll likely make out okay.

They can let you go for any reason unless you have a contract. If it were me I would ask questions on topics Iwas unsure of. If he continues with the “You are just asking to keep me happy “ and stating your job is on the line ask him what he wants from you that you are not meeting his expectations on. Document any incidents and hope he lets you do your job.

I was thinking to speak to another director , explain the situation and ask if I can possibly switch teams..

Maybe speak to someone about the situation so they are aware and can possibly keep a eye on how your being treated. You might not want to be the one to suggest switching teams it could potentially put a bigger target on your back if the person thinks you are not a team player.

Threatening to fire someone over one piece of work and not even training them is shit managerial skills. Me speaking up about it is being tough, walking out is the weaker response.

Really think about the work and how it so done. Why it is done. What needs to happen and why. Think about the timing which is the “when”. Really learn the process and walk him through it so he knows that you understand.

The other Director will see that you are on the bubble, meaning you could easily go out the door. Why should that person take that risk with you when there are other candidates will be what they ask themselves. This also puts that Director at odds with the other one but for what? If you are a weak employee then it is best that you go now would be the thought. That’s how I would read the situation and I am an experienced manager/Director.

No, what I said was from the managers point of view… if you are a weak employee it is best you go now. This is work, not school… get focused or leave… well in my generations day anyway. Honestly, you sound like a problem employee expecting the company to accommodate you when it is the other way around, you should accommodate the company, at least if you want to stay employed and grow. Good luck in how it works out, perhaps it will.

I've already set up a meeting with HR, is there anything I can say instead of the switching teams and so it doesn't sound too problematic..

I don’t know honestly. HR works to protect the company so be mindful of that. So many think they are there to protect the employee. They will be nice, fair but be careful. I think my first suggestion is the best route which is to really study your area and understand it, from that you will get better questions but what they really want to know is that you fully understand it and good questions is an indicator that you have interest and a grasp of what is going on.

I may just change my story altogether then and ask about study leave/probation as I did have questions regarding that but didn't get round to it.
