Why do some employers make me wait for a week to hear from them after doing a job interview? Am I not going to be accepted?

Hey guys, first thing first sorry for my English, it isn't my first language. I'm looking for a job and doing a lot of job interviews lately. The thing is, after I did the interview, the employer said that I need to wait for a week to hear from them again. They said that they're still sorting out the other resumes and job applications.

What if I'm not being accepted? I'm just scared of not being accepted into the job. I have been doing a lot of job interviews recently, and I got rejected so many times. They said I am not qualified enough or that I have no work experience that's relevant to the job. What do you think? Why is it so hard to get a job as a fresh graduate? I'm getting really frustrated rn because of it.

Because there are a lot of qualified people with degrees and prior experience. When tell you that is because they didn't hire you and its generic reason. But at least they told you that you weren't hired or selected, most places don't even do that.

The good news is that your getting job interviews so your resume is strong. Most people file applications and never get called for an interview. So as a hiring manager I'll tell you that only the top 10% get interviews.

There's this one job that I'm applying for. The employer said that I need to wait for a week to hear from them after the interview. They didn't tell me that I wasn't hired or selected. They just said if I got accepted, they will contact me within a week. Why do I need to wait for a week? Are they not going to accept me?

No doesn't mean they aren't going to accept you, it means they have other interviews scheduled with other candidates.

I have worker for major corporations like Amazon for example. They have a very thorough and mandated hiring process that requires a panel of people and they have to interview no less than 3 candidates. Then they got to go through the internal process of selecting the most qualified.

Other places are not as elaborate as that, but they interview multiple candidates over the course of days. Very rarely does a company offer a job on the spot. After they select the person they want to hire, you still got to clear through Human Resources and neogotiate slarary, before they send you an offer letter. And if you need a senior manager to approve it, then some times it takes days for them sign anything.

I been offer jobs after and interview and decided to decline it, so then they got go back and review all candidates again, clear HR, neogotiate salary, draft a new job offer, so lots of things can happen. They say a week but it could be several so stop stressing.

I took was offered a position once I accepted it, and then it took a month for then send me the official job offer. The VP didn't want to pay me what I was asking so it sat on his desk. I got it in the end. $135,000.00 annual. But I had an in, I knew from a internal source that they could pay up to $150,000 and they wanted me to take $120,000. But I was making $125,000 where I was. So these are things that go on behind close doors that you don't see or know about.

What if the other candidates are more qualified for that job than I do? Does that mean they're not going to select me? As far as I know they must be selecting one of the best if not the best available candidate around. And during the interview they asked if i have ever worked in that field before, and of course I said have never had a job in that kind of field. So I don't have any job experience that's relevant to that job. And I think that they're looking for someone who have at least little experience in that field, and I have none of it. So I think they're not going to select me, and of course waiting for a week makes me feel anxious cause of not knowing the results.

Almost ALL employers will, sometimes longer. It's not personal. They often do interviews for days, sometimes weeks and they usually get A LOT of resumes from people. So you wait that long because it takes time for them to interview everyone they want to interview, then they have to make a decision on someone they like best. Plus, this isn't the sole focus in their day, and they are doing many other things (example they might only have 1 hr a day for it), so it just takes time.

Because they have all the power imagine you went on a date or interview with brad pitt and he will let you know if you got chosen after he interviews all the other girls. Well every company in America think they are brad pitt 🤦🤦🤦🤦

It’s all about networking and who you know. It’s hard as a graduate because you don’t know anyone In the industry. But have you reached out to any alumni in the industry?

Not yet, I don't have a wide social circle or networking unfortunately.
