The up & down arrows are easier on the eyes & 16 inches will put you dead on center of the beam & you also notice it every 16 inches on your measuring tape. Bonus points if you know what the black diamonds are on the measuring tape are.
Oh rather than looking for a tiny line.. I though the arrow for the width of the tape but they had a typo or something
One thing is possible. It is the standard spacing for decking joists, and also, in UK, roof and floor joists.
