What is the 16 on a Tape measure mean?

The 16 is red and other numbers are black, and the 16 has arrows facing outward

Getting the middle of the stud on the line I would think is hard unless the middle is marked. I honestly rather prefer marking by the side of the side

When it comes to building just remember studs are 16 inches on center.

Huh, I never thought about that. But then why are the arrows like that?

The up & down arrows are easier on the eyes & 16 inches will put you dead on center of the beam & you also notice it every 16 inches on your measuring tape. Bonus points if you know what the black diamonds are on the measuring tape are.

Oh rather than looking for a tiny line.. I though the arrow for the width of the tape but they had a typo or something

One thing is possible. It is the standard spacing for decking joists, and also, in UK, roof and floor joists.
