My manager is Chinese and specially really only wants to hire and promote Chinese people even if they’re not that great at work. What should I do?

I’m a white woman for reference. I was told in the hiring process she actually initially hired a Chinese girl but then it fell through so I was second choice. She also has a bias for mostly Chinese people on the team. She gave me a warning several months ago after setting me up to fail on a project, several people are quitting (most of which are not Asian), and she’s ended other people’s roles at the job for no reason and they were all white. This is completely wrong but no one will escalate it.

Prejudice in the workplace is VERY common against White people. You being a woman, you will likely experience it MUCH less than White men do. I have experienced it my whole adult life. You pretty much need to secretly record them saying things about not hiring/promoting people based on race to be able to sue them over it, depending on what state you live in because undisclosed recordings are not always legal in every state.

Racism and discrimination is common against White people though and most of the time nothing will be done about it even once it is known.

How large is the company? You could talk to an employment attorney but you may find it easier to just find another job.

Talk to HR. If that fails go to the EEOC or your state labor department. Also maybe talk to a lawyer who specializes in employment law.

bias is usually against a minority... not a White person, I imagine it feels terrible. Tell your boss you understand and want to be treated fairly
