Office or field work, what is your ideal?

I enjoy having an office but I need a degree of variation that stretches the legs.

While I primarily have an office job, I move around a lot at my job (I work at a hospital) so I get the best of both words!

Working at a desk and minimal exposure to others, which as an introvert makes me very happy! That and I like working on computers. Yet I have to run errands around the hospital, so I get to move around and interact with others if/when need be.

I don't really have field work in the sense of leaving my building for work, but I get to move around a lot and go to different departments a few times a week so that counts as my work field trips lol.

I do have a large portion of my job that takes place at a computer. So I can confidently say I hate that part the most.

When I was a young engineer, I enjoyed going out into the field. I'd put on coveralls and do inspections or field verify certain details found on plans. I'd also get together for lunch with my friend who was a building inspector.

While I liked field assignments, many of my colleagues hated the very idea of stepping outside of the office.

It's a good thing we're all wired differently like that or society would grind to a halt if people refused manual labor or administration.

In my trade, they’re essentially the same. My preferences change with time, experience and trade.

I’ve done both. I like field work more. Office work is boring and repetitive.
