How to be more assertive?

I work as a CNA and I work under supervision of RN's and BSN's. I know they kinda tell me what to do, but is there a way to be assertive than to take the load of everyone's work? I don't want to be manipulated, or taken advantage of. One nurse said I was agreeable, and I don't want to be like that. I am short and innocent looking too, so people always think I am younger than I am. I want to be strong and confident. Or should I just go to work do my job and go home? And if anyone gives me trouble just stick up for myself?

You need to speak up more but respectfully. I work as an NA, it is a lot of work. But you can only do so much. The worst thing you can do is get on their bad side. So if you can make good w then as far as good rapport they are more likely to help you out. Some nurses just feel like they are superior to you so they try to act authoritative, so if courtesy doesn’t work you may have to speak to your supervisor or just call them out on some bs. I have done that a few times. I may have an advantage being a male that some people find me intimidating since I’m much taller, bigger ex military. Usually I will just say when I get a chance. Or do you need it done right away? Prioritizing. There are nurses who sit on their phones all day, shopping, sleeping, so when they start saying this needs to be done I’ll call them out on it in a respectful way unless respect gets kicked out the door due to them being a shit ass. If you have that option of picking your schedule like I do I’d suggest trying to get on a shift that you know you have a good crew, other NAs who you know will help each other.

Be assertive in looking what needs to be done and do it for month THEN you have some credentials to be assertive in other areas. It is a right earned 🤷🏻‍♂️
