uld i be stupid to take a job that pays less?
i'm an assistant manager for a retail swimming pool shop i make $16.12 an hour. in the summer we work at least 60 hours a week in the winter we just chill in the store for 4 or 5 months not much to do.

there is a family dollar store thats opening up by me soon one block from where live thing is i would not be a assistant manager & i would be making only $13.50 an hour.

i have been thinking about calling the woman who called me from family dollar & taking the job.

would i be stupid to take a job that pays less?

There is definitely more to a job than the paycheck. If you’ll learn more, or if the fringe benefits are better are some obvious factors. Some subtler factors might include training and educational opportunities. You COULD be studying for your next level in those down winter months! Maybe you’ve got kids and one company offers daycare benefits. Maybe one is WAY closer to home and you’ll save the difference in pay by bicycling to work or talking public transit. Maybe one or the other naturally links to your more long term goals. Here’s one WAY too many guys overlook: job satisfaction. Making a few dollars less to not HATE your job, and too often your life by association, is a winning trade. It’s one of the ones women beat men out by routinely. Leaving one job for another job is far from inherently “stupid”. You have to weigh the pros and cons of each to find the most reasonable conclusion. If you have the chance, talk to people doing what you’ll likely do at the next potential job. They’ll be more honest than the manager trying to recruit you.

It depends upon how much time and expense goes into traveling to your current job, and how much room for advancement there is in each.

I think you would be unless you are very unhappy with your current job. $16 an hour. Damn how do Americans survive on such little pay wage and working long hours. I feel for you guys

I still feel for you as our minimum wage is $21 an hour and you legally cannot work more than 50 hours in one week.

I don't live in America. I live in Australia so our wages are very different here. We also don't have to tip anywhere we go either as restaurants pay their workers an hourly wage. Yes our minimum hourly rate is $21 unless your a 14 year old working at McDonalds than your hourly rate is around $12 an hour
