My boss has threatened to fire me if I take a day off work, even if it is for a specialist appointment or an appointment to check on me and my unborn baby. She honestly made me feel like my job was more important than the life of my unborn baby and made me feel like if I want to keep my job I have to kill my unborn baby. This woman is a mother herself.

Update. I have made the decision to quit. It is not only the boss I am having issues with but I am also now having issues with the night cleaners taking my products and using them and I am tired of having to also do their work on top of my own work because they just sit around and do nothing. The night cleaners have been warned repeatedly to start doing their work but they just don't listen or care. The company have already replaced the original cleaners with new cleaners but the new cleaners

I learned very early in the corporate world to get everything in writing. If my boss told me to do something verbally, I would write up a quick email outlining those instructions and asking the boss to confirm them.

At least twice I had a boss try to blame me for something and my paper trail showed that I wasn't responsible.

Most people aren't going to document (or allow to be documented) their misdeeds, but the really arrogant ones don't care - and that usually leads to their downfall.

Having said that, understand that life isn't fair, and I have lost jobs unfairly because the upper management sided with my boss despite evidence to the contrary. Both times it was the beginning of the end for that boss, but by the time they got fired, it was way too late for me. You have to look out for yourself, so I would be looking for new employment regardless.

You have holiday to use up during the year, use them, she can't stop you from using them aslong as you give some advance notice, if she fires you without good cause you can use her for being unlawfully fired.

Plus don't you have a union in your work? Go talk to them about this, they shod be able to help

I don't have any holidays as I have only been with the company for 5 months. You have to work for a company for 12 months before you get holidays. I'm actually not sure if there is a union in this company. I have to find that out. Thank you for your help

Having worked for someone who’s just as heartless, I would say to do you and handle your business. I bet it’s just an empty threat, and I doubt she’d want to risk any sort of lawsuit on your behalf for unlawful termination. In any case, never put your health or child’s health at risk for a job, there’s not enough money on earth to risk your unborn’s life. If anything let the boss fire you then you can receive unemployment but don’t quit.

This woman has fired people so I have no doubt her threats aren't empty. She has even had people quit on her they just up and left and she was pissed about it and was saying if you have an issue talk to me about. She acts like she is the owner or the company but she isn't but she is 2nd or 3rd in charge. I've thought about contacting the CEO of the company to let him know what she is doing but I stop myself because I'm like what happens if he has the same attitude. Back when I was working my toxic job and the company changed ownership, we had to go through new onboarding and part of it was to watch a training video addressing issues like this, and things like wrongful termination (especially if you’re not part of a union). One thing you can do by going HR is to request anonymity with your report. Their job isn’t to be biased but to resolve the issue in-house before involving the CEO. Legally they wouldn’t even be able to point the finger of blame at you, so you have nothing to lose by reporting her. Doesn’t matter how high up of a manager she is, she’s replaceable.

I never stopped to think of contacting HR. HR didn't even cross my mind. Thank you for mentioning this to me. I might do what you have mentioned contact HR and go from there especially since I did disclose to this woman I did have ongoing specialist appointments and my health was important and she still hired me knowing this. Her comments that made me feel like she was telling me if I want to keep my job I have to kill my unborn baby I broke down crying at work. It was sick and disgusting.

That’s so unacceptable and I’m sorry you’re dealing with it. Don’t be afraid to reach out to HR, it’s not being a rat and I know you’re worried they will behave like her, but that’s not what they’re there for, especially since it’s a company and not some mom and pop that your boss owns herself. You may even be surprised to learn that there’s been other complaints made about her, even if you don’t know who spoke up. I’d also suggest going over the paperwork you signed when you were being onboarded. See what their policies are and all that fine print you make have skipped when signing everything. And please, take care of yourself and your baby. If that means finding employment elsewhere, then do that. But a toxic work environment is stressful for you and you unborn, which is the last thing you need while pregnant.

In your circumstances you would have a good case for unfair dismissal (in uk anyway). I'd strongly recommend striking first and taking legal advice to see what the law says where you are.

I'm in Australia and we also have unfair dismissal laws here as well but sadly because I haven't been with the company for 6 months it won't come under unfair dismissal unfortunately.

This woman is a mother herself I just don't understand why she would basically say along the lines of telling me if I want to keep my job I have to kill my unborn baby. This woman even told me I should do marijuana because apparently according to her marijuana will cure my medical condition that has the potential to hospitalise me or turn into cancer. Marijuana is not only illegal here but it also says in my contract if you are caught doing drugs while working for the company it would result in instant dismissal.

I've had other issues with her telling me she can't help when I have needed stock. When I tell her I don't need certain stock as I have too much she will send me more I ask for small gloves as I have small hands and she sends me medium gloves which are too big I have even had to stay back past my finishing time because she told the delivery guy to delivery the stock at 4pm and the delivery guy didn't get there to after 4pm which I should have been paid for, for being made to stay back but I wasn't paid for it

This is the same manager who during one of the zoom meetings in front of her employees tells employees they can still show up to work and do their job if they have food poisoning because she claims she had food poisoning and it wasn't that bad and she got over it in a few hours. This is also the same manager who wasn't telling employees about other employees testing positive to covid and them being considered a close contact and they needed to watch for symptoms and get tested. This is also the same manager who sends me stock have asked her not to send to me as I have enough yet she doesn't send me the stock I need or enough of the stock I do need and when I tell her I need that stock as I am about to run out she tells me she can't help me.

I'm in another country and we do have unfair dismissal laws here but you are only come under that if you have worked for the company for 6 or more months. I'm being made to do more work than what my job description is and I'm not being paid for doing the extra work. Legally I am also supposed to be paid for having to stay back after my knock off time if the company makes me but I don't even get paid by this boss for being made to stay back.
