What to do if your manager is toxic?

I would say to try to work it out diplomatically. It could be that the toxic manager just doesn't know any better. If the manager is in fact a complete prick, maybe go to HR if you work for a company that has an HR department.

I was in a position in my mid-twenties where I did work with a toxic manager. He would outright lie to you to get his way. He even created his own company memos and used the name of the regional director, just to get his way with something. When I found out the memos were BS, if I turned him in they probably would have fired him. However I was next in line for his job and I didn't want his job if he got fired. I just let it go and found another job as soon as I could. There were definitely other reasons to leave that workplace also, so leaving worked out for me. But how childish, to forge memos under the directors name.

LOL That is just it. These managers who work away from *their* boss, if they are substandard, use it to their advantage that their boss isn't hovering over them.

This guy was a work of art... LOL... I still can't get over a college educated person forging a memo and signing the directors signature. (This was a long time ago and before email was in much use.)

Now that I've been thinking of this, I wonder how his life would have turned out differently if I brought it to the director's attention and he got fired for it. But like I said, I did NOT want his job if he got fired, anyway. And it was to my advantage to leave that job regardless.

In my opinion, work hard and if he still behaves like a dick. Leave the manager forever.
