What would be the reason firefighters get transferred to a medical shift?

So my boyfriend said he got transfered to the medical truck and he said it sucks. I'm like I don't really understand why firefighters go on medical runs, I thought it was just paramedics that do those. Someone asked him what'd he do to get transferred and he said nothing, is it something he probably did to get transferred there?

Depends on the city. Some use their fire fighters as EMS responce. Others have strictly EMS paramedics for that. The cities that do that usually move their people around so often to "share the wealth"
