I was taught about them in primary school but only the basics of clock Roman numerals. Beyond that they are still used today in various disciplines. For instance; they are used in Stringed Instruments as notes for reference and playing. While also adopted in Musical Movements to space out standing alone tracks or versions of a song if you will.

I have a better grasp than most, but far from complete or perfect. I watch a lot of movies. Frequently film credit sequences end with a Roman numerals date for film completion. I often watch full credits sequences and occasionally have to look up Roman numerals to figure out the dates as recorded.

Yes, we learned them in school, but I forget in what grade. We only learned the numbers 1 to 12 I’m assuming because it was so far back.
In answer to the equation, you have 2 X times 5 minus 3, which should be 100- 3 and that’s 97.

Yes, I do. I learned them in school. We still use them when completing documentation for memory tubes, more because of tradition.

I do read books from school and books in general so yeah. I sort of have to. I was just trying to teach my 11 year old how to read and write it like yesterday. Of course, I went of the deep end and started also teaching him Japanese/Chinese Kanji for it. His brain shut off and wanted to go back to Roblox.

Kanji is very hard, it's like the Japanese form of Chinese characters (hanzu). But Hiragana characters (letters) are easier to teach and if your son has a good memory, he'll learn them quick and be able to make words. For example, sushi is made from the charcters for su and shi.

@Amy10223 Yeah, Hiragana and Katakana were somehow easy for me to memorize. The challenge started with kanji. The normal everyday easy ones are easy, and probably because I lived there, but try picking up the newspaper and reading that... thank god my relationship ended and I stopped trying to obtain citizenship.

I'm not going to lie, the grammar for advanced speaking was hemming me up as well. When you stop putting the -masu and the end of every verb and stop speaking like Arnald Swarternager speaks English... shit starts to get deep. ... and as a dude with other dudes doing gangster shit, that 'masu' and 'desu' shit will get you laughed at quick.

I'm sure it's not easy because of the sentence structure being so different. We got to learn the "desu" but were just introduced to the "ga" after the "wa" (and there are more as you know). The particles were the last we learned, with possessive nouns being a little hard for me to master, ie, "Nippon no kuruma", "Amerika no kaisha desu" and the hardest for me: "Yokohama koukou no Watanabe desu". I will continue to take the Japanese 2 in Jan. But how interesting you were going to live there. :)

We learned them at school, but as you say you only really see them on clocks these days. I guess in MMXXII there just isn't a need since few of us have watches.

I don't think the Roman's had decimals or fractions. They didn't even have a ZERO... the Arabs invented that.

I think the Indians invented zero and Arabs called it sifr, from which the words цифра (digit) and cipher come from. An Arab took the Indians numerals and showed them to His people, so they’re also known as Hindu-Arabic numerals.

The clock is easy. Ignore the font and look at the position of the hands. There are lots of clocks who have images instead of numbers.

They used to teach us use of Roman nuerals in school long ago, don't know if they still do.
I went through this phase at some point of working out the year a movie was made by the little blurb at the end with the studio of production and year it was made in Roman numerals... example MGM ( Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) MCMLXXIV (1974)... calculate a few of those and it becomes clear pretty quickly.
