How do you respond to a rude teacher?

One of my uni lecturers at the moment has been really rude. I suppose he’s overwhelmed with classes that he’s taking it out on us I don't know.

But I don’t like his tone at all. I also noticed that he’s bit of a racist and is unnecessarily insulting. I recently sent in an assessment draft and his feedback was really rude. Not critical but plain out insulting. My other friend and I did similar work and she got positive comments. I asked another lecturer for a second opinion and I got positive feedback. I’ve worked hard and followed the guidelines well so I doubt that my work was “ A PIECE OF CRAP!” according to him lol. Since the semester is almost over, should j just stay quiet and get it over with? Or have a chat with Mr. Rude? Thanks!

I'm a teacher. Not a professor, though. First of all, if he's being rude to his students, he'd probably a piece of sh*t to begin with. But second of all, we don't know if you're being honest or not, or just have thin skin and making a mountain out of a molehill. Thirdly, if this is college, then you should either arrange a one-on-one meeting with this professor or have the school set up a one-on-one meeting with him, preferably in the last two weeks of the semester now, but it should've been done the second time he gave you crap.

When I was in university, I had this hyper-liberal arts professor who wanted us to write sh*t attacking Donald Trump, Brett Cavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett and I had the school set up a meeting, and she basically agreed to stop pushing her leftist political opinions on us for the rest of the semester (it also was probably cause I'm black and she'd see herself as a "racist" for trying to fight against me; or her woke colleagues would.)

As a last resort, if this guy really is an asshole, then record him on your phone and show it to faculty. If they do nothing, then post it online and let it go viral, and THEN see what faculty thinks about it.

I've also had no problem telling certain impolite male professors I think they're dickless soyboys and disappointments-to-their-fathers, to their face (there's no shortage of mangina professors in colleges these days.) As long as I do the work, they can't fail me and I couldn't give any less of a crap if they like me or not. If they failed me for nor liking them, I'd sue them or cost them their jobs for intentional harassment to a student.

I've had PLENTY of asshole students before. It's your job as a teacher to keep your cool and realize that young people tend to act like assholes pretty often. They do annoy me at times, which is why instead of fighting back, I just stop resisting and become calm like a river. If they fail, they fail. I only give a sh*t for the kids who put in an effort. 🤷‍♂️

Teachers each have their own way, not that its justified but about when i started school getting the cane was considered normal... times change of course but even still i had a teacher who would throw chalk at people. I guess these days you might be able to do something about the physical abuse, the mental one would just go down to teaching unless it was actually abusive

In college, I actually called out a rudely ranting Professor to step outside with me.

I insisted several times because he was "on a zone" and repeatedly refused.

Eventually, he stepped out.

Before he could continued his rant, I loudly asked him: "Sir! What is your problem?"

He reminded me that "students must respects their Teachers" because he felt embarrassed that I "demanded" him to step outside.

"I'm not a child... I'm an adult and I want you to know that students can also understand peers. So, please, calm down and accept the fact that I can help."

He gave me sigh of relief and thanked me.

We walked back in and he apologized to the entire class and gave us the rest of the period off.

I asked the rest of the class to "give him some slack" and allow me to face any investigation on behalf of the class.

You could sideline him. Give him a holiday card. Tell him you’ve noticed he seems pretty stressed. You don’t want to pry, but you hope everything is okay. Happy holidays to him.
