Yes, within reason. I look and I asses the genuine need. 99 times out of 100 I get it right. If it needs an answer, I do the thing and move on. The rest I leave until the morning.

I'm blessed now with bosses who don't reach out unless it's genuinely urgent or we've trained each other to say "this does not have to be done tonight (this weekend) but it was on my mind and I wanted to get it in writing".

When I was in the Navy I had several bosses who had no boundaries and I had to teach them that while I would salute smartly and do what it was when it was (pissed my wife off no end) that they were messing with Sailors and their families and that was bad for morale. Got them into a better place.

Sorry, that was a long winded answer for what is, effectively a "yes, but within reason if genuinely required."

No, I worked for a place that expected me to be available 24/7. They gave me an iPhone and when I got home I would just put it on the charger and not look at it until the next day. I don;t think they were too happy with that.
