Happens routinely, which is to say several times a year. We’re on call and it’s part of the deal but also, sometimes, at the end of a shift they realize there are staffing issues on the next shift and they need people to hold over. I will always volunteer, even if I don’t want to. I’m also a team leader though and it’s wrong to expect others to do such things if I don’t also. It’s more about basic leadership than the OT or staffing.

My boss called me in the middle of a snowstorm. The collegecwas closed but there was an emergency and he asked me to come in and help him. I ended up going in and we fixed everything in about two hours.
it depends on the current situation. If I'm on on-call duty, I answer every call; I'm obliged to do it. If we launch something new, I answer every call because I feel responsible for the launch. I also answer every call if a newly onboarded person is on on-call duty because I feel responsible for my people.
I consciously plan my vacation out of those events so no one needs to call me :D
I always say I’m out of town and they should’ve told me ahead of time

Someone said in Esquire this week, your job should be delivering the work that's expected of you, however you get that done, not counting the minutes of your physical presence. That's why working from home worked so well during the virus, because people had to produce work, on their own, in whatever way worked best for them.
At first I accepted, until I noticed I was the first they called and they took offense if I refused. Ever since I learned to be unavailable in my private time.
Only when I volunteered for IT on-call duty, which I rarely do. But it's well payed, the surcharge is between 50% and 100%, depending on the time/day.
Back in the day, I always would go in when they asked if I wasn't traveling, nowadays I would tell anyone to fuck off.

if they want me to work overtime then they gotta pay me more
if not then I won't pick up phone during my day off
No, I haven't experienced anything like this. If I had experienced something like this one day, I would have cut that boss's throat.
I was once ask to work longer so someone else could go home after putting in 16 hours already. I said no and was fired for refusing to work. What an ass….
Sorry I can't come in as I have been drinking alcohol.
I don't answer on my days off or tell them I can't do it.
I've never turned down overtime but I'm not called on to do it regularly.
really very hard thing... after work just wanna lay in bed minimum 20 to 30 minutes
I always say yes but i am trying to get that cash otherwise i’d just say no
Sorry, I don't have childcare lined up.
That can't happen to me. I'm self employed!
