Would you pay $10, 000 plus tax for a coding certification from a well known university?

Thinking about switching careers. Apparently, this certification can help with my enrollment in other programs.. The admission advisor said the tuition is so high because there's tutors available free of charge to help you excel in the program.

Are you talking about medical billing and coding or software development or web development? That's too expensive for medical billing and coding, but it can be realistic for the other two. Check out these programs. I'm not an expert in that field, so I can't recommend a particular program. You want a program that is well established with a good reputation. Cost, convenience and length of program also need to be considered. Learn about their job placement opportunities. Unless you're a quick learner, you may want to avoid the accelerated programs that can be finished quickly. It's a popular program, so competition will be high. Find a niche you can specialize in, so you can establish a name for yourself in a particular area. Best wishes on your success.

The IT sector demands your application knowledge, your will to learn and your projects you have done as a reference for your skills. They do not depend on certifications by that much.

Yes, if this program is also helping you to get some internship/PPO, then that is a different thing. Otherwise, it is just a certificate. But, still ask your friends in this field for the same.

My uncle is a high level engineer in Coupa. He conducts interviews for job applicants. He said that the certificate just tells them that you have studied particular topic/subject. Nothing else. They ask you one or two questions and get a hang of the depth of your knowledge. It is your GitHub page (your personal projects) they are more interested in. How you explain them and all.

Here, for your personal projects, no innovation is expected. Just the understanding of your projects. That matters.

If the program is worthwhile and you have the ability, your get the money back in the first there months after you are hired as a programmer.
Was there a placement exam for the program? Serious coding programs will have one to keep people unlikely to succeed from eating money and time.

There are hundreds of free coding tutorials available online. Have you tried any? I suggest trying JavaScript or Python. Do you have a friend who is currently working as a programmer that could help you if you get stuck?

I'm a programmer at one of the FAANG companies and there are two young women on my team who went through similar programs. One was working as a barber four years ago making $20/hour. With four years experience she's probably making about four times as much. Good luck. PM me if you want more.

No. You can literally learn to code for free by just looking online or on YouTube, and start at the bottom of a company and work your way up in a year.

I wouldn't do it personally though, cause I find IT to be incredibly boring and soul-crushing work, which is why I rejected that major in college and dipping my toes in the water to see how it works.

The main question is are you good at coding or just doing it because it's a thing these days.
You can learn it free from youtube if you have the understanding of applying the logic. Certification aren't necessary if you know what to do for the job. Once you get the job then you can do the certification

No, I think you'd be better of just thinking of a project and watching youtube for an introduction, then getting the project working.
That costs more than my degree cost me.

If its a for profit university.. No Its not worth the paper its printed on. If its from a real non profit university than yeah thats a good deal.

Not really. Its what you're getting that makes it valuable. For example my CCIC cert cost my company (not me thank god) 150k and it was a 2 day class and test.

One could not possibly do something else while doing this bootcamp. I got a job immediately but not everyone did. If you dedicate yourself you will get a job within a short amount of time tho

There are coding boot camps that don’t make you start paying until after you have landed a job in the field and will help land jobs. Some are more trustworthy than others so I would definitely do as much research on possible before choosing one of you went that route.

It is also possible to learn all the skills needed without any formal education through sources like freddcodecamp and YouTube.
I went the self taught route, it took me about 1.5 years of learning after work and on weekends to find a job. But I think could have been done in 6 months to a year if I had a more structured path (which can also be found now a days online for free).
I’ve been a front end dev for less than 5 years and get paid really well and am able to work remote, just to give my 2cents that becoming a web developer is a great choice.

I should also mention, online there are plenty of free resources like stack overflow and google to help with whatever problem you are working on. These are the methods you would use on the job anyways, and would be more beneficial in my opinion than tutors. Also, colleges tend to be behind when it comes to the technology they teach for web dev as it progresses so fast.

I would definitely look into what kind, if any of job placement they offer. From my experience of what hiring managers look for, the certifications wouldn’t help so much.
