I've said for awhile, since my own college admission days, that there shouldn't be any affirmative action or special treatment. That all applications should be a number, and then other criteria used, such as GPA from high school added in, and whatever other stuff they want to use, but no gender, no race, simply look at the person as a human being.

Then pick the top people, without even knowing who they are... and offer them admission.

Now everyone who gets in, is admitted strictly by who hard they worked to get to that point. Rather than someone less qualified getting bumped up first.

That could be setup to be automated that way.

No. College admissions is too important to trust to computers alone. Just because someone had bad grades in high school and did nothing outside of school DOES NOT MEAN they will mess up in college. Computers are excellent when it comes to deciding things with a standard criteria, but when it comes to college admissions, there are no one size fits all approach as to who will succeed in college. ALL admissions decisions by colleges should be decided case by case, not as a standard.

Absolutely agreed. My grades were poor but test scores better. And allowed in. And I’m not sure how ivy colleges do their apps. Is really that far from this? (I love killing eve)

There are many criteria to consider besides GPA, I am a big believer in making the applicant write an essay, community service and having a cohesive plan for their future. Many students go to college without a clue what they want to do with their lives.

Sure. But like the car assembly lines, we work hard to make the best (Al Gore Rhythm) and the benefit is the constant standard instead of humans deciding poorly one week and even more poorly the next…

If the rules say "add points for legacies", there will be an automatic tendency to keep the racial demographics of the school the same.
