Go to college or farm/ranch?

Looking for some directions on this.

I turn 35 today.

Been in the army since graduating high school. It was what I wanted to do back then as I had no money to go to college and didn’t exactly have all that good grades either.

I do happen to know a thing or two here and there and quite the investor, let’s just say over the last 15 years I made more money from investments than what Uncle Sam pays for serving the country and today I get more money from dividends than I do from my salary.

I was planning on going to college this fall but 3 weeks ago I inherited land from my late granddad. I haven’t spoken to him for many years as didn’t get on well with him in my younger days and neither did my mom or most people for that matter. Was thinking of reading law in if I go college.

Don’t know anything about farming or about that farm, only know it is 14500 acres, middle of nowhere and it was under some kind of federal program that he received money from the government to not farm it. It was a dairy farm many years ago. No idea what’s the condition of the farm, seems more like an overgrown junkyard at this point in time. A neighbor has offered to buy up the place and 2 others are keen to lease it.

Looking for some advice and directions on this.

No family, no kids, no pets or commitments at this moment other than a car that I’ve 5 more payments.

Well, are you interested in farming? Are you still getting payments to not farm the land, and if so, is it more than the property taxes? I'd suggest against selling until you've had the land assessed (if you haven't already), so you know what it's worth and don't let it go for less than its value.

Farming's hard work, if rewarding, and MUCH easier to sustain yourself with (if that's a concern of yours). Remember, though, that college doesn't have an age limit; you can always go back later.

So the way the economy is going in the States, being able to grow your own food right now is definitely an advantage looking towards the future. Owning your own land and growing your own food and being self sufficient is a plus. I’d say figure out farming clean the place up and use it, hard times is in its way get ready.

Follow your desire on what you really love to do when it comes to college. if you’re going to college make sure you really really want to do what you’re studying because somethings can be learned without going to college and something’s definitely need college. Like being a doctor and a lawyer. Other stuff not on that level is a scam for money.

I went to college and now I’m in 100,000 debt and the school got sued for fraud and closed down so now my degree is worthless and all have is just the knowledge no supported credits, it’s as if I don’t have a BA.

I'd say you go to college to learn about agricultural stuff so that you can use up your resources effectively and make a living out of it.

Or it doesn't even matter if you use your resources. You mentioned law, so you might want to become a lawyer, it will help you someday, you'll get knowledge you've never learned outside
