How do you deal with being picked on in school when the bullies are smarter and way more popular than you?

First, sorry you're dealing with this. That sucks.

Second, @Chazmatazz269 is 100% right. In all of what he said. But I want to highlight the distinction between "bully" and "pick on". Neither are fun and you don't deserve to be picked on, but there's a difference.

Next, smarter is often (most of the time) subjective. And, frankly, irrelevant. But, let me tell you why I think YOU are smarter: you're here asking how to deal with a problem and those clowns are picking on people. Here's the thing: smarter in school usually doesn't translate past graduation day. Really. And it doesn't matter, right? Your classmate who works as a vet tech is contributing to society just as much as the one who went to Harvard Law. My point is that it's what you do with your life that matters.

As for popularity, that too is a red herring. "Popular" doesn't mean much when it is measured in mindless followers at school and on insta.

But, you asked how to deal with it. I say that, unless it's physical, ignore them. A fire with no fuel goes out. People get bored. Do your thing. Eventually, picking on you will be no fun because there's zero reaction. If it really gets unrelenting to the point that you can't think, you can't do school, or if it gets physical, then involve parents, or a teacher, or a counselor, etc. You need adults to help in those cases.

Do not conflate being “picked on” with being “bullied”. They are not the same; not even close.
Don’t be so sensitive. If the joke would be funny if it WEREN’T directed at you, then it’s still funny. Laugh! If it’s not funny, then it should be easy to top. Give it right back! If THEY can’t take the return jokes and it gets physical, then and ONLY then is it bullying. Stand your ground. Most bullies are cowards by nature. The conflict ends as soon as they realize you won’t lie down for them. You may even make a friend. If it escalates physically, you have a choice to make. Win or lose, you can choose to report them to an authority. That’ll almost certainly be your best choice if you lose. If you win, you can choose to become a new authority to your former bully. Again, you might even make a friend.
