was going to quit but instead of a two weeks notice.
i was going to give her a 1 months notice.
would i be stupid for doing that?

I wouldn't consider that to be stupid at all. It would be considerate because it would give them more time to find a replacement.
Just follow the contract. If you really need a month notice because you do something very special, you only sign up for a hell of a long time documenting your work process. So you are extending the check out time.
i have no contract i dont do anything special.
i work in a retail seasonal store its just me & her during the off months.
in the summer more people are hired but they get laid off towards the end of the summer.
she only asked for two weeks notice but i want to give more. as when i told her i would maybe quit she got very upset. & i dont want her to shit about me if she would do that i'm not sure.
Your latest reply here is why you never say you might leave, and why you don’t give more than 2 weeks notice. You follow the procedure of 2 weeks, and move on. Your colleagues will eventually get over it and move on, but you don’t wanna drag that process out.
In UK, the standard rule is to give the same notice as your periodic pay days. Get paid monthly, give a months notice. May be worth checking your contract, if you have one.

Why? 2 weeks notice is standard. What is the reason you’d give more?
To be nice plus i want her to give me a great reference. Some times in life you have to go above and beyond.
Nope. Wouldn’t do that. You’re opening the door to have more things go wrong. The way you go above and beyond, is to give 2 weeks notice, and work hard those last 2 weeks and go above and beyond on your job. End on a positive note. But giving more than 2 weeks notice, is just a bad bad idea.
i just saw this how do you mean i'm opening the door to have more things go wrong.
i'm just curious about your thoughts with your comment.
I’ve never left a job smoothly. Always at least one of my colleagues or managers acts unhappy. Which is fair, they are losing an employee and it’s more work for them.
It’s a change for the company, and a lot of people don’t like change. So even if people are happy for you, it’s still an awkward experience for everyone.
Of course maybe you think your situation is different. Maybe everything will be fine. But when I thought that, and gave longer than 2 weeks notice, I regretted it the entire time. And that’s all I can really say. I highly advise against giving more than 2 weeks notice.
my boss is the only other one i work with
2 weeks is the norm but if you have a good professional relationship with her she might appreciate the extra notice. I think 4 weeks is a little extreme but you do what you want.
we have a great professional relationship i feel
1 week. 2 weeks at the most
