As someone who hires, I believe things can be conducted either more formally or more casually depending on an employer’s preference.
But, at the end of the day, important information needs to be gathered and questions need to be answered to see if it’s a good fit for not.
A bad hire can cost a company a lot of time and money, so you can be casual but not at the expense of an accurate assessment of fit.
Also, you may be formal, but be asking the wrong questions.
So whether it’s formal or causal doesn’t matter too much. What matters is the accuracy of the assessment and whether or not they can determine if the candidate will be a good fit or not.
From the applicant’s point of view. An applicant should prove to the company why they would be a perfect fit.
You would be persuading them that hiring you would be a great decision.
And at the same time, you want to exude confidence in your ability to perform well in the position.
