How would they know that asking for your full attention makes you socially anxious? From your perspective you feel attacked and from theirs you’re not paying attention or engaging when they talk to you. If it made you uncomfortable then pull the professor aside when they have some down time and explain what you have going on so they aren’t taking it the wrong way.

That's highly inappropriate and unprofessional. Professors don't get their job because of social tact.

In my experience, most full professors suck at teaching. I always thought the best teachers were part time night class teachers. They work in the real world during the day. Professors have often never left academia and are pretty clueless about the real world.

A lot of teachers , professors actually have no clues about handling students. However a lot of students don't pay attention to class too and without knowing about the girl in details , the professor wouldn't know about her status.
