Did I just mess my chance of getting a job?

I got a email saying I was unsuccessful, when I was supposed to be getting an interview. I emailed the college about it where I was applying, and the manager asked me to sent her the email.

I sent the email and it changed to that I am under consideration. The manager then told me I am still getting the interview.

I don't understand how the email changed or was I just reading it wrong?

After being unemployed for an extended period I have come to the conclusion that there is no rhyme or reason to the hiring process. You will never know what goes on behind the scenes. I have interviewed for jobs that didn't really exist and I have been hired only to find out that the job had not been funded. I was the finalist but was told that they didn't interview enough people and would start the process again. I was encouraged to re apply which I did and was not even called for an interview. I was hired by a place last July which was good but a few weeks previously I interviewed for another job someplace else and I went to a second interview and the next day I was asked for references. I thought I would be hired but I never heard back. I interviewed at a different place and was hired the next day. Two weeks after I started the first company left me voice mail asking me if I was still interested.

They probably already made up their mind on another applicant, but will still interview you anyway so they seem fair.. so probably pointless but there is always the chance you can blow them away and still get the job.

I told her I got an email saying I was unsuccessful and not getting an interview, she asked me for the email, and the email said I am under consideration so she told me she is still scheduling interviews. I told her thanks for the clarification
