If so, how was the experience?
Did you feel out of place being with older kids?

I skipped 8th grade because my Mom made me repeat the 7th grade... then I did the 8th.
Seriously though the school wanted to pass me but my mom had her own agenda... I was a live-in babysitter for my baby sister. For some reason, she figured out I was going to be gone as soon as I graduated at 17. So she prolonged it... or so she thought. I got emancipated at 16... left right on my 16th birthday. Accelerated school got me my degree with a 3.8 GPA. Not the full 4.0, but still... I wasn't a fucking retard. ... Plus I was knocking out 3 credits/week... Regular H. S. is like what 12 every 3 months? Do the math on that. I was going 3X faster to learn the same shit. All I did was study, lift weights, and cook and clean for myself.
... and still made time to bang my 13-year-old girlfriend until the day I turned 18.

I sort of did in college. I went through in a little over half the normal time. I still took most of the classes, but took a very heavy load. For the core sequences, I doubled up and simultaneously took classes and their prerequisites. There were a couple of cases that I did the prerequisite at home rather than taking the class. They still made me take the mid-terms and finals to get credit, but I didn't attend class.
It was tough, but I was financially motivated. I had bills to pay and was only working very part time. I wanted to get through college as fast as possible and get back working full time.
I was in first in my home country. When I came here…. they put me in 4th grade!!! Well…I am now forever in elements school to make up for lost time!! Lol
how I feel? I was very curious…everything was so new to me. I didn’t know English and I felt behind even more. Took me another 3-5 years to learn English…so I lost about 8-10 years of education. I am not very smart 😝
Oops…I got it all wrong…I didn’t skip any grade…I am still sooooo behind. What can I say? 🤷♀️
I did in 11th grade because my mum was on the edge of death. Very sick. Me and my youngest brother dropped out to be there with her because we were scared. Once she miraculously survived, we decided to study for the next grade, give exams and stuff to not waste our time.

nope. cognitively, i sure could have but i suffered from bore out. i know that today but at the time nobody (at least nobody within reach of my parents) knew what that even was. teachers would just assume you're dumb, cause your grades were mediocre to bad. actually my teaches told my parents that i may be retarded. so they took me to a psychologist, where we took an intelligence test and it turned out above average.
so people would just assume you're a lazy little fuck that needs discipline. my parents had no idea what to do about it at the time cause discipline didn't help. today i know, skipping a class or going to a school that is specialized on "faster learning kids" would have helped me a lot.
I did. After starting first grade a month before my birthday, I skipped second grade. Didn't make any difference, I was still working way ahead of the class and school was a complete snooze. Instead of allowing a child to skip grades, find some way for them to be with their intellectual peers. Then if they choose, they can graduate early.
I never skipped a grade upward - but I was dumped into the basement with the refugees. My class mates range from the age of 12-17, I myself was 15.
I felt right in place and grateful for the experience today.
Kind of yes since I graduated a year early so I basically skipped my senior year. But I also got held back in kindergarten so I really just ended up back on track
No I never skipped a grade. In 3rd grade I actually got left back because I didn't pay attention in class
Twin sister and I both got pushed up during primary school days. Two grades
up actually. She had the harder time
adjusting, I've always sort of gravitated
towards more mature people my entire
life.
No but I skipped 6th period French class sometimes.
I skipped my whole gym semester!! My kids asked how did I failed gym. I said I never went 😂
But I was a gymnast in HS 😂
@midnightmoon05 Where I went to high school you could not graduate if you failed gym. I doubt it is like that today.
But I got 100 in all my other gym classes!😝 just not that one beciase I didn’t like the teacher. I went to the library to hang out with my friends.
@midnightmoon05 I cannot imagine what goes on in public schools today. My kids are all done with school but if they were still in the system I would probably send them to private school.
In my family…School is a place to socialize for my kids. Especially my son. My daughter takes it way too seriously. I don’t take it seriously. We are only their to learn to follow rules.
I teach my kids 75% of the other useful stuff they need for their future. How to raise their family, how to handle money, how to handle other people in life.
Don’t give too much power to others who do not have you in their best interest… otherwise we lose our fundamental structures, behaviors and values.
Most of the stuff seen on social media doesn’t happen in schools.
@midnightmoon05 My wife and I taught our kids everything they needed to know to succeed. Unfortunately you still need a piece of paper that says you graduated from college to be considered for a serious job.
Most jobs yes…some don’t need a college degree and can be successful.
My understand is that many young people are reconsidering the options/benefits of higher education.
Those who are raised to believe they can study whatever they wanted in the 80s, 90s, came out with loads of debt…then couldn’t get a job with that degree are now reconsidering how to train their future children about debts, and the practicality of a college degree.
Colleges and insurances are the only two business that never go under.
I have never skipped a grade. However, I could’ve when I was homeschooled but I didn’t.
Yes, I've gone from A's to C's, then vice versa. I didn't care either way. I usually hang out with older people anyways
I had quite a bit of this. It was very detrimental socially, and very interesting and challenging academically.
Not exactly, but my mum spoke to my middle school headmistress about my genius in maths, so I was allowed to take 8th grade Algebra I whilst in the sixth grade. I excelled in it and got a better score than all the eighth graders on the final.
Nope, I hit them all K through 12, and I'm glad I did.
I did, and yes, it was a bit difficult because I was also at the youngest end of the spectrum to start with.
Nope, I was home schooled
Nah but I woulda been held back one
Yes, I graduated 2 years early
No lol
never
