Am I too old to become music producer/dj?

I am 34 years old male and I just started learning music production on laptop and also bought my first guitar. Do you think I still will able to do it on more professional level? I don't mean being famous and rich, but I would like to do it quite professionally. However I am afraind I am too old for this, I just started learning it and I don't want to be delusional.

The problem is I just realized it is what I always wanted to do.

I started DJing in 1985, and started taking college Audio Engineering while still in High school in 1987. I mixed live shows for up-and-coming bands in the late 80s and early 90s.

I give you that background so you understand that I actually have some real-world experience.

Like all talent jobs, there are 1000 people for every remotely viable job - and when I say "viable", I mean making enough to rent a room in someone's house and eating ramen noodles for 5 years so you can spend every penny on gear and software, so that, just maybe, you get hooked up with an artist who finds some success. You really have to live in a big music city - LA, NYC, Nashville, Atlanta, etc. because that's where the work is. Otherwise, you have to be friends with a successful act who will push to have you produce for them, and then your success rides on that one act.

Meanwhile, the music business overall is a tiny fraction of what it used to be, which means there's far less money. Few adults can survive on that money unless they manage major success on the charts.

Yes, it's a young person's game - no established artist would hire you with no experience, and the new acts that can't afford an experienced producer would probably have trouble relating to you. As such, the already extremely long odds of success would be even worse for you. 99% of people who once wanted to be a producer will have given up and moved on long before reaching your age.

Of course, nothing is impossible, but it's extremely improbable.
