Is it acceptable not to go to work if you don't have transportation that day?

normally i drive my car into work but on Wednesday after work on way home it over heated and needed to go to the garage for a new coolant pump. so i could not go into work Thursday and employer didn't seem to mind. but when i texted them today saying i still couldn't go in as car was at garage still they got upset

and said couldn't you find a ride in or use the courtesy vehicle from garage , thing is i live 25 minutes outside of town so the garage is not going to drive that far to pick me up just to take me into work and back. and a taxi would cost way too much i couldn't afford that

and not even sure when it will be fixed was suppose to call today before end of day but nothing yet

There's no public transit and no one who can carpool with you?

You'll have to use time off to stay off work.

You are responsible for getting your ass to work. Or calling out if you're not able to.

I'm having my car worked on today and brought my work laptop with me so I can work while I wait so I didn't have to bus or taxi to and from.

But y'know, ymmv if you're not someone with a job where you can work remotely.

i can't really work remotely , i did tell them about the car trouble so it shouldn't of been a surprise i couldn't get in Friday if i couldn't make it in Thursday cause of the same issue. i live 25 minutes away in a small bedroom community that has no buses or public transit , how can i make it in if car is at garage?

Usually not. In fact, most applications I’ve filled out ask “do you have a reliable way to get to work?” You can’t take the city bus?

normally i do have a way into work as a drive a car , there isn't a bus or any public vehicle that drives people into town in the morning other than a school bus that takes high school kids but nothing for average people

the only other vehicle i have access to is my parents truck but if i were to take it in for the day they'd be with out any vehicle all day 25 minutes outside of town and i wouldn't want to do that to them for an entire day

Hmm. There has to be an alternative. Again, please figure out a solution so this doesn’t get you fired. Unfortunately, most (if not all) businesses won’t accept that you don’t have a way to work on certain days. I’m sorry, but it’s just the truth.

i'm not scheduled to go back in there for work until next Tuesday so this issue with car should be fixed by then. the place i work is extremely short staffed so they can't get rid of me rate now as they don't have anyone to replace me with
