Have you ever asked for a higher salary?

I got an interview with a really big corporate job. I’ve had just over 3 years professional experience.

Anyways, I said it was hard to give my salary expectations because they hadn’t given a clue on what their budget was. But I have a reasonable (on the high side) range, £32,000-£37,000.

She said it might be a bit lower than £30k, maybe £28k minimum but she’ll check.

I said I was happy with around £30k because that’s what most pay and I’ve done my research. But I’d be happy with what she offers if she checks their budget for the salary.

Did I go the right thing? I mean I have really excellent qualifications and I don’t want a low salary. I previously got recommended by the same company for a £45k role.

You did the right thing.. As you said you have around 3 years of professional experience and you do have the right excellent qualifications you're able to say what you want..

especially if you got recommended for a higher salary...

Its a negotiation. Nothing wrong with asking for more but there is a chance they will just say no. Unfortunately there are no set simple rules - wish there were.

If you have solid info to back up your request for more that helps a lot.

Always push for the most you can get. Justify it with specific skills or examples if you can.

If you have a previous recommendation of 45k, push to get as close to that as you can.

Never take a pay cut.

I asked for a higher position. They gave if to some ond who isn't good at it... And I was there longer than him. So I'm working on leaving at getting a better job. Can't wait to leave.

That's exactly what happened to me in the past! And then they asked me to train the new girl!!! Why should I train her and get paid half of what she gets paid? I left and haven't been happier since. Good luck!
