It could be either. It's better to be paid $100/hour than to be paid $50,000 in salary.
If you currently have a salaried position with benefits, and are being offered an hourly contract, I figure the break even is at least your annual salary / 1000. So if you are getting $100,000 in a professional job, the minimum contract rate you should consider is $100/hour.
Hourly, I presume, means you only get paid for what you work and may include overtime.
Salaried tends to mean you get paid the same each month, for a set amount of hours. You may or may not get overtime.
I've only ever had salaried jobs. I like the regular and predictable payments.
The one where you get paid even when you are sleeping.
When you let your money earn more money.

If you are serious , and staying for at least a period of years , there is zero doubt that a Salary is better , now this assumes you are involved , have negotiated well , and are not going to let yourself be exploited.
depends on the task...

You can get worked 70 hours a week with no overtime
