How can some TEACHERS be so DUMB?

The picture shows what the teacher put up in the classroom, and a young student questioned her about it, because he knew that pterodactyl (the flying dinosaur) starts with a "P".

The First Grade teacher called the student argumentative when she refused to accept his correct spelling and had him suspended for it.

Are some teachers really that dumb? And so control-happy to suspend a student for disagreeing with them?

First, she wasn't "dumb"--just not bright enough to handle the criticism from a first grader. She sounds like she has self esteem issues if she let that get to her.

Believe me or not, have seen younger grade teachers make mistakes with spelling this way. But her bigger mistake was suspending a child who only tried to tell her her spelling was wrong. Had I been the parent of the child--I would have fought this.

I have also been a witness to improper behavior by teachers with young children. One teacher I worked with yelled at a student who did something that was not so horrible--I forgot what it was---but she just caught him doing it, and she blasted him for about 20 minutes in front of the class. The kids (these were 4 and 5 yr olds) were terrified of her and would come to me for help all the time. You could tell she shouldn't have been a teacher of small children. She had none of her own (of course).

PS- "dumb" means unable to speak.

I would have thought most people would need to double-check the spelling pterodactyl. But I've also noticed the sentence doesn't contain the article "a" or "the" which makes me think the teacher is using a foreign phonetical spelling

Not suspended, but can recall my parents having to come in to elementary school to vouch when a lousy teacher wouldn’t believe me. There’s a crisis in education where many places cannot attract or retain talent because of low pay and crappy working conditions. Another problem is the temperament of the teacher. Sadly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not an uncommon attitude, particularly in certain states, where some public officials seem to know things as fact that cannot be known… It used to be the right that homeschooled so they could brainwash their kids. Now the left have to homeschool to protect themselves from the right 😒 Also wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a racial dynamic… 😳🙄

It's actually spelled Pterodactylus, and its a Pterosaur, not a Dinosaur. But yeah thats pretty stupid to suspend a child over getting it closer than they did.

That is so wrong of her to have him suspended for spelling correction. And someone higher than her must have approved it, like the principal.

Some people have trouble being wrong. They have to be right now matter what.

The public school system is not designed to have good teachers. Good teachers, if by chance they are hired, are forced to conform to stupidity or leave. It is not even easy to have good teachers in private schools because they must conform to the government, and in effect the government is ruled and pass laws written by the public teachers unions.

There is no solution because almost all American were raised and indoctrinated in public schools to be uneducated conformists.

the same thing happened to me several times elementary school, about protons, about 3.9 about chromosomes. obviously religion does that but other topics teachers have their religious faith too.

Yes they are sadly to say. A very weeks ago i saw a documentary about teachers who where not able to do math or write correctly . they even admitted they love to play games in the class room , playing with their phones while they where at school studying for teacher..

One of my kids found herself in a similar situation. The young 5th grade teacher sent me an email complaining and had my daughter called into the office. My daughter won a dictionary at a school spelling bee prior to this and I brought it with me. The woman was such a jerk.

anyone who really is smart would have turned that around real fast, by saying to the kid, you are so smart! i spelt is wrong on purpose to see who would correct it or notice it first. she could have claimed it was a spelling exercise. as a teacher she is out of the scope of her brain power.

I had a teacher who made a couple mistakes (but not in spelling) when I was in HS. I think almost everyone in class knew he was wrong but no one called him on it; he was a very nice man so I think no one wanted to show him up.
