What should I do to get a job going forward?

I'm currently applying for jobs on Indeed, as well as seeking out recruiting agencies. Only 2 out of the dozen I've contacted reached out to me, but 1 won't meet me again until December (they're government funded), and the other hasn't contacted me back since I applied to them in-person. I guess I'll register with other privately funded agencies in the meantime, as well as eventually consider applying for jobs on company websites. I can't go for other taxpayer agencies because that's forbidden.

I have also tried to directly apply to some places in-person, but either they state I lack experience or I need to give them a resume (too lazy to print). I've applied for data entry, office admin, receptionist, admin assistant, sales associate, cashier, stock associate, warehouse associate, general labourer, visual merchandiser, and a bunch of other jobs. I graduated from college and took computer programming, while I did take social sciences at university but never finished it so no bachelor's.

- For now while you wait on agencies, do some volunteering. Gets you experience and looks good when you can say you helped out.

- Don't be too picky - take any job you can get to get money coming in, even if it's not your dream role. Better than no job.

- Brush up your resume. Have people look it over to make sure it stands out in a good way. First impression matters, bro.

- Practice interviewing. Ask friends to do mock ones with you so you'll feel prepared when it's real.

Don't stress, just keep at it. Something will pop soon. For now focus on self-improving, networking, and getting your name/face out there however you can. You got this, just stay consistent with the hunt!

I'm banned from LinkedIn, Craigslist is shady, I already tried networking, I already got my resume looked at; and I'm willing to do any job as long as it's not too far away, not too early, not too late, and not compromising my health/safety to a high degree (yes that means most physical labour jobs are off the table)

- See if any local colleges have job boards posting gigs perfect for students. Could find something remote too.

- Try Facebook groups for your city/neighborhood. People often share local biz hires that maybe aren't public yet.

- Reach out to your city's economic development office. They may know of roles a regular site won't list.

- Check niche job boards like Rat Race Rebellion for gigs with flexible hours/locations.

- See if any shops/restaurants near you need holiday help. Even seasonal could tide you over.

- Consider virtual assisting if you've got computer skills. Set your own hours working for clients online.

- Look into online micro-tasks on places like Appen, Lionbridge, etc. Not glamorous but steady income.

Applying direct on company sites is smart too. Cut out the middleman of sites like Indeed sometimes. And going in person with resumes can't hurt either, shows face time.

Def keep an eye on those scammy FB groups, good heads up. Remote work could be good if you find legit postings, but def do your research first.

- If possible, follow up the online submission with a phone call to the hiring manager. Just a quick "Hi I'm X, I recently applied for the Y position online and wanted to introduce myself."

- Highlight any related experience you do have, even if from hobbies, volunteer work, school projects etc. Shows you're a self-starter.

- Playing up soft skills like communication, problem solving, collaboration - those are things they can't always teach.

- Check if the company uses an applicant tracking system (ATS). You can find out what they look for and optimize your resume accordingly.

- Consider small-to-mid sized local companies over big chains - they may care more about personality than years of experience.

Yeah I already gotten a few more interview offers since, but I didn't bother attending them cause the jobs are too far away and/or shifts are incompatible with my sleeping habits and/or not worth working for (door salesman).

Ah word, makes sense to only pursue jobs that actually fit your lifestyle man. No use wasting time on stuff that won't work schedule-wise.

And yeah I've heard of that "white resume" thing before. From what I can tell it's a bit of a mixed bag. Some people definitely claim it helped them land more interviews by making their resume look more "standard" I guess.

But prob depends a lot on the specific job/company too. Like a corporate office gig might be more likely to respond better to that style compared to a casual restaurant or something.

I'd say it's worth a shot if you tweak your resume to fit that general vibe - plain white paper, simple font, bullet points, etc. At worst it doesn't really change anything. But could give you a slight edge over others if a more traditional looking application appeals to whoever's hiring.

Only other downside I've heard is some people claim it makes your personality and skills stand out less. But short term to get in the door for initial talks, might be worth giving that template a try on a few applications and see if you notice any difference. Can't hurt to experiment, right?

I had better luck with Zip Recruiter. You get some feedback whether or not somebody looked at your resume. You also need to make a resume and it has to be good.

Did you ever think about finishing your bachelor's degree? It will make you a lot mote employable.

i had to drop out of college twice because i ran out of money. It took me 15 years to finish. Then I got my Masters degree right afterwards. I am glad i did it.

I has an ROTC scholarship for freshman year. Then I could not pass the eye test and was dropped from the program. I had enough money saved for one more semester and dropped out after that. A couple of years later I started a new program that had a work study component and I hoped I would pay for it with that. I went for 3 years and ran out of money and dropped out again. a few years later I worked for a company that paid my tuition to go part time at night. I was able to transfer some of the courses i had already taken. I took 27 courses at night and it took me 5 years to finish. I even went in the summer. I was working full time and had a wife and 3 kids to support. I do not know how I did it.
