If you were unemployed for a very long time because of depression how would you tell to them if they ask you why are you unemployed for so long?

Even if mental well-being is quite a topic nowadays, I wouldn't say openly to my potential employer that I was depressed. I would say some lie, like a sabbatical to rest and recharge, or the illness/accident in the family, and I was supporting them... tbh I have a sabbatical in my CV :D just to avoid questions about the year-long gap I described it openly :D

So politely decline an answer.

If you want to explain it, just say something like "for health reasons i was unable to work"
