How many years did you remain unemployed and how did it affect you?

I am 75 years old and retired at the at of 59.5 years. Not of my choosing. However type one diabetics become impossible to insure and the work won't tolerate it. I started working at the age of 16 as a dishwasher. From the age of 17, I worked between semesters as an errand boy, and courier. During the next 1o years 72 through 82 I was a Lab Tech , X-Ray Tech, Emergency Medical Technician, and Deiner ( Igor) as in Put the body on the table, iGOR. Yesss, Master. Two more years at Duke and I taught Autopsy Technique and Surgical Path dissection skills at four medical schools for 26years. The Pathology manager called me in to tell me I had to go. 300 cover letters and resumes in two years with no takers was devastating. The entire time I was thinking: Good Education, Hard Work, Dedication to the Workplace.

I used to think that PTSD was something that happened to Ex-Military. Not so. It was like I had leprosy. Bankruptcy followed. It is odd how your concept of Law changes when you are on the outside looking in. There were sleepless nights when I considered dealing. I was offered a chance to work as a sexual surrogate, which I ultimately turned down. It would have supplemented unemployment. My opinion was that Society had screwed me, this was a chance to screw them and let the insurnace company pay me. Sounded great.

You can imagine my blood pressure skyrocketed and I needed a triple bypass in two years. I still held a lot of revenge in my soul which was becoming darker by the day. I had to DIE in the OR to let go. I realized that the individual who delivered the "Knife to my Neck" had to do so to keep her job. There is a mental residue, i am scarred. But I am still alive.

I've never been unemployed. I've always had multiple sources of income

Not more than a few months and that was more than ten years ago.

I was unemployed for 19 months during covid. I thought about just retiring when my unemployment benefits ran out but Biden had just been elected and inflation was exploding and the stock market was tanking so I went back to work for a couple of more years. I liked being unemployed while the checks were still rollong in. I can see why people like to be on welfare.

never more then 1-2 moths.
My economys low down, but nothing too scary.
I finde a job and then in 1-2 months i was back in my stabile life.
