I finally reached that stage in my life to file , I didn’t want to go down this road , but sadly I don’t have a choice , since I can’t land a job whatsoever , I been applying to jobs for the past 5 months , actively applying every day since the day I was laid off , I don’t understand what is happening in this country but things have not been good for me whatsoever, I never experienced anything like this before and don’t understand why it’s so hard to land a job that I know I am well qualified for. This country has gone to hell in a hand basket. I know other people are struggling as well and it just blows my mind on how fucked up this country has become.

I have collected unemployment 4 or 5 times. I have no problem with it because I have been paying into the system since I was 17 years old. You should not feel bad either. Our economy is in freefall and people who are over 50 find a hard time getting hired. During Covid I was one of those people you read about that got more money collecting unemployment than they got working. You might as well get as much as you can. The government will only waste the money on illegal aliens. Get as much as you can for as long as you can. Don't be afraid to ask for an extension. I collected for 18 months during covid. I got several home improvement projects done. The government paid me to stay home and work on my house. Think of this as a pre emptive strike. The government will eventually screw you over so you might as well screw them over first

You might call FEMA or the state equivalent about that. These agencies have to justify their existence so they want to give you the money

A very long time ago. Not that it amounted to much and it's not something you could live on. It was a few £100 per month.

Now I see benefits claims at work and a lot of people seem to get professional salaries for sitting on their arse all day. I've never seen anything like it.

Anyway, I do sympathise with you. Thinks are tough here, also. Fortunately, I have a job. But it's certainly hard to thrive and there seems to be a certain stuckness in one's lot. Staying positive is certainly a challenge and it's easy to descend into bitterness and a sense of being disempowered.

House prices went insane here during convid around 2021. They were previously quite reasonable in my neck of the woods. Then it seems they pumped £900 billion of money into the economy, in the form of quantitative easing. Vastly inflating the currency and fucking up my savings. House prices seem to have gone up somewhere in the region of 30 to 50%.

Last time I had to look for a job it took me 14 months because no one would hire me because I am not bilingual only English speaking.
And now that many millions of people are in America 🇺🇸 that weren't here long ago speak a foreign language. That could be a problem for a lot of people soon.

You see, the illegal aliens have people hooking them up with jobs. Jobs are probably mostly going to them since they liked better than Americans 🇺🇸.

Especially hit are white men in their 40's. I heard that two years ago.

In my late teens early 20’s I had to, while looking for work between jobs. You had to go every 2 weeks. Always queues of people, and from all walks of life, and all ages. Hated it.

Twice, once i was unemployed for a short period of time, the other we had a thousand year flood, my home got flooded, so i got emergency unemployment to rebuild my home

I was encouraged to apply the times i got laid off but never did. Instead i used up most of my savings until i got another job which sucks as well

No, at least not yet. In the previous jobs I quit (so far I haven't been fired) and immediately after, I got another.
That has been my style so far.

Yes, during the lockdowns. It's not a pleasant road to have to go down, but I speak from experience when I say it beats starving on the street.

Yea this country has gone to hell in a hand basket , and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to get any better. Part of me wants to just sell my home and get out of here , Finding work shouldn’t be this hard

I have twice. Both times had to do with the military. Actually getting paid was a huge bitch for me both times

Because I was finished college and didn't have a job
And I guess I thought free money
But the hassle to qualify was so much I didn't go back
Then I got a job
Haven't looked back in 36 years of working
