Here are some suggestions for what to say in a situation like that, without being rude:
- "Sorry, just need to squeeze by real quick" and politely move past them without waiting for a response.
- "Pardon me, in a bit of a hurry here" and gesture that you need the space. Again just go ahead and scoot by.
- If there's any risky objects nearby you could add "Don't want to bump into anything, mind if I scoot past?" Safety card might get their attention.
- Subtly narrate what you're doing so they know you're not just ignoring them back "Alright, grabbing this cart and then we'll both be on our way".
- Kill them with kindness - "Thanks so much, appreciate you moving for a sec". Calls them out without confrontation.
- As a last resort, involve another coworker - "Hey Marc, can you give me a hand with this? Need to squeeze through". Peer pressure FTW.
Best not to engage directly if they're trying to get under your skin. Keep it polite yet assertive and just do your thing. Ain't worth the hassle dwelling on people who don't like you.
have you done something that’s making her react this way. you should know
and if not this is nasty hostile workplace behavior.
