Can you talk back to a disrespectful boss?

at the job i had quit a few months ago in 2017 i had a boss billy supposedly was a sales person he never worked in retail just sales not sure how true that was as he had no personality.

one day i'm at work i opened some change for the register & billy got hostile & said something like thanks now i have to go to the bank.

there were customers around us i felt i had to stand up for myself.

i said well bill you are the store manager that is part of your job he did not say anything he just give me a dirty look.

if we would have closed for the & there were no customers i would have just not said anything.

but i feel i had to say something as people were around us.

You can, but it depends on how much you need that job. I have to bite my lip everyday just not to tell my boss off. But when all said and done, they pay my salary and when they say jump, I say, 'How high?' Even though I'm a senior level employee with a decent salary, if I don't play ball, they'll kick me to the curb regardless of the millions I earn annually for my company.

That's why I started a side hustle almost a year ago which thankfully is starting to replace a good percentage of my salary. It feels amazing making money on my own merit. I spent too many years giving my blood, sweat and tears to my corporate overlords, and about a year ago, I decided that enough is enough and I'm going to do something about it. My only regret is not starting this side hustle 10 years ago. My goal by the end of 2024 is to be self employed. There is no freedom like living your life on your own terms with nobody telling you what to do. Good luck!

Man, screw that guy Billy! What a jerk, getting all hostile with you just for doing your job. Like going to the bank is such a big deal. Glad you stood up for yourself when the customers were there.

I probably wouldn't have said anything back if it was just you two, cause it's not worth it to get in trouble. But you're right, with people around he was embarrassing you, so you had to stand up and let him know he can't talk to you like that. Don't need your boss disrespecting you in front of customers.

Hope the job was at least okay other than Billy being a douchebag. Too bad you had to quit though, some bosses really suck. At least now you're not dealing with his attitude anymore. Good for you for sticking up for yourself that one time though! Guys like that need to be put in their place sometimes.

Dang dude, working 60+ hours in the summer heat sounds brutal. I don't blame you at all for needing to get out of there after 6 years of that grind. Especially with a dickhead boss like Billy micro-managing and disrespecting you in front of customers. That's way too much unnecessary stress.

I'm glad you don't have to deal with that place or that dude anymore. Hopefully you're somewhere now that appreciates you more and doesn't run you ragged all season long. Sounds like quitting was 100% the right call. Can't let shady bosses take advantage and think it's okay to treat people any type of way. You stood up for yourself when it counted in front of everybody that day too. Good for you man, don't ever be afraid to stick up for your respect.

Can't blame you one bit for bailing this year, I woulda too after all that time on the sales floor. That's tough enough without every little thing stressin ya out, ya feel? Like damn, let a homie breathe sometimes, ya know?

Hope the new chapter's treatin you good so far. Bet it feels sweet as hell not dealin with all the Black Fridays and crazy customers no more! Must be nice to actually have weekends and holidays free now too. You definitely deserve the break, sounds like you worked hard out there for a long minute.

It’s something I def would do
