Have you settled on one career or are you just going from job to job every few years or life milestones?

Question

After all, I'm sure I've worked about at least 5-10 jobs and I'm not even 30 yet. I like how I've gotten to see and experience what other jobs are like and how that moulds me as a more well rounded person. It's like the opposite of being pigeon-holed, it's about being aware that other jobs are just as hard or harder than easier jobs and the way those interactions educate a person. Like compared to even street smarts versus book smarts, some things you just have to experience to actually later appreciate and carry.

Working a variety of jobs is good you pick up all kinds of different skills which makes you that much more valuable, hell I had several careers over my life wish I could talk about them but the one I really loved the most was driving trucks big 18 wheelers, was on my to do list of what I wasted to accomplish when I was a kid, I loved being out doors driving all over the state, ha a lot of fun kind wish I would have done that from really age but fate puts us on path we are destined to travel on, by 30i had done so much, seen witnessed was down more was unbelievable is all I can say but driving trucks was so cool felt free hate to be in doors all day, when you find what you want, something you would get out of bed at 3am in thunderstorm to do you will know it, right now is best time anyone will ever have to reinvent yourself, make changes for a better future, coming out of the pandemic, fake as it was lol but I tried to explain during the lock down don't eat the time focus on what changes you need to make, out a plan together because when it passes it's not going to be same as before, and your never going to get this opportunity again in your life, and so many people quit their regular job for better ones a lot of people never returned to work there's are so many jobs available, I knew people who weren't working 2,3,4 jobs part time but they were making do much money was worth it to them, and it's still that way but some friendly advice, your in your 30, s if you able to, work and go to school do so within the next decade the landscape win be unrecognizable far as enjoyment, a lot of jobs will be automated it's happening now, the cross over to automation is taking place and skilled technicians, will be needed pandemic was as test run won't go into that but he won't be same world in 10 years why the government was paying for you to go to school to be prepared for tomorrow but not many responded shame too hell I took a few courses just for the heck of it!

As for my career I’ve been on the job for seventeen years & before that I worked two job & before that a few more. As for me I have never really gone job to job but I have gone on interview after interview & after taking positions in those companies I always looked to better myself. A long time ago I said by the time I’m 35 I wanted to be where I needed to be when it comes to a career & I succeed before that.

As for you you’ll find your place & it’s a matter of time but on the meantime keep looking. You are looking for a job that has a future, that has health benefits, retirement & hopefully a pension as well. As for you hopefully you aren’t just up & quitting your jobs & if you are thinking about quitting just make sure you have another job in hand before doing so. In your town, in your city or whatever ever you live if there aren’t jobs there you may have to relocate & go where the jobs are.

Well I would say its early saying I settled but I have done the same job since university 4 years ago. On the other hand over the last year I have greatly improved a 'job' that doesn't pay yet but maybe in the future it might pay a little bit. That being said I mainly do what I want to do. If money becomes an issue I can theoreticaly do more in the same job. I basically work 'part time'.
I work as a journalist mainly columnist for a local newsletter. Last year I started something else not sure how to call it. Bassicaly doing speeches and kind of workshops (informative not political).

Almost settled in my current career, but the next step is moving up to management level... a few people have encouraged me, but to be a supervisor has never really crossed my mind lol. Though I think someday I might take on that role when I decide to "settled" on my career... I just get this weird feeling as I've dived into my professional development lol. My next step is to get my Masters and then I will decide to "settled" on my career when I find the right workplace (cultural, mission, values, positive environment, etc) I want to contribute and lead long-term.

Haven’t settled. I’ve only had about 3 jobs in my life. I’ll be getting my fourth one sometime this year once I get my paperwork right. I’ll be a bit more settled around 35 though once school is done.

Manual labor is the field I more or less settled on a long time ago I know that I'm not really suited for office work. And labor/blue collar jobs usually allow you to pick up more kinds of experience and skill sets without having to switch jobs and I just like working with my hands.

Just at my one job I've learned many skills, learned a lot and have a lot of experience doing a lot of different things something I wouldn't be able to get necessarily at another job.

I've worked at 6 different jobs in my entire lifetime and half of them were labor jobs, working with my hands. Working in warehouses building precision machine parts, building furniture and setting up and running ethernet cables through walls and ceilings for our county's police academy, or where I've been for the last few years working as a laborer in the agricultural field.

Working many different jobs may give you an enhanced perspective, as you described, but you have yet to become established in a field and start advancing and gaining recognition. You are behind many of your contemporaries and will likely regret this later, unless you change course now.

I worked in high finance for a number of years starting in 2016 as an intern during my college studies. Graduated with comp sci degree, got jobs making 6 figures right away and made VP at a bank at 26 years old.
lost everything in my life at the end of 2022 and started over. Now I’m an entrepreneur running a design business.
It’s not as much money as I’m starting and I miss the way life used to be in so many ways but honestly God has a plan lol. I almost died working in the finance industry…

My career has always been in engineering, which I what I wanted to be from when I was a small kid. I have changed jobs, from electrical engineering to software engineering to systems engineering, as well as moving between companies during my engineering career.

I voted for "I've changed jobs many times" though many is not really correct. In my career, I've worked for 5 different companies.

that is very normal to change jobs.
You are young, how are you supposed to know exactly if it is right for you until you try it.
Do I see myself here in 30 years.
I had a few jobs that seemed fine, but after 1 day or a week I'm going nope this isn't for me.
There are a few of my friends that worked at the same place from high school to retirement, but most bounced from one to another until they found the right one.

I started my business during freshman year in college (OCC) and dropped out before sophomore year because I was making more than I would with the degree. I am not sure how long it will last, but it has been growing for a decade and has allowed me to invest in rental properties, which are earning me, after expenses, close to half of what the business does.
