How do you deal with unemployment at 20 years old?

First, if it’s a case where you can get unemployment payments, do it. I had to do it when I got laid off during covid, it was a life saver to have that money. The main requirement to continue receiving payments was to look for jobs on their website and apply to at least 2 per week, which was easy enough and I was going to send in a shitload of applications anyway.


Second, if you’re not in a place where money is tight and you’re just taking a break, indulge in it. Take some time to find a space for you, work on things you like now that you have the time for it. Being unemployed, while stressful, was also a nice time off for me to sleep in, play video games, work on some creative endeavors, etc. it was all to hemp me feel productive in a time where I wasn’t sure I was.
