1 yI assume you mean auto mechanic. You are from Turkey and I have no idea how much mechanics make there. Here in the US they make close to the national median pay. They make a decent living, and can support a small family if they are careful.
Working on heavy trunks and diesel engines pays more. Heavy equipment pays more. Airplane mechanics pay more. There are also all kinds of industrial mechanics who work on various kind of machinery.
A good mechanic should be well rounded. Simply changing tires or brakes isn't much of a mechanic. If you want to do that kind of work you need to learn as much as possible about it. And you need to constantly keel learning since cars are constantly changing.
Modern cars are a LOT more complicated and technical than they were 30-40 years ago. Learning electronics pairs well with being a mechanic, and can even be a specialization.

m 1 yA car mechanic can be a decent job, however moving to a technician role is a better move. That means moving away from basic stuff to dealing with complex modern systems in a car such as HVAC, DSG boxes, Radar systems, databus technology, electronics. You can then work towards being a Master Tech, work directly for a car manufacturer, work for a rally team a formula 3,2,1 team etc

1 yNo, not really. It is an honest living. If you are good at what you do and enjoy working on cars, it can work. Whether you own your own shop or work for a shop, if it makes your ends meet and allows you to support yourself and/or your family, that's all that matters. Many people have NO idea how to fix a car, so they rely on people like mechanics!

1 yBad in what sense? You don’t think it makes enough money? Are you afraid of being overworked? Do you think people will think less of you for being a mechanic?
02 ReplyThat’s classism, that’s not someone you want to be friends with anyway

They'll always be needed, you work at a regular pace. You stay physically active. The pay is enough to get by. I wouldn't call that bad. It's not glamorous, but you could always play your cards right and work towards having your own shop, which could definitely get lucrative.

I don't think always honestly. I feel like AI robots will be able to handle repairs in the future.

Yeah, good point. But at least in the next 30 years, it's a safe bet. And one thing to remember is we can become AI experts within our own fields too. Like, if your job is going to be transitioned into AI in the near future, you can start learning how to be the one to program/teach the AI and do quality control on the output. Not everyone can do it, but it's an option for some of us.

1 yThere's worse professions, but also many better ones. The world needs mechanics, always will. Same with plumbers, electricians, HVAC, etc. but the pay and class lifestyle have been trending downwards for decades now, it's hard to live off these professions anymore.
00 Reply430 opinions shared on Education & Career topic. not at all.
There are less and less of them out there, so someone will have to repair all of the vehicles for people that don't want to work that they drive to starbucks and sit around and complain how tough they have it.
Nothing wrong with the trades what so ever.
Many places you will get paid to learn, no collage debt, and while you will work hard you will be well paid with good bennies.00 Reply314 opinions shared on Education & Career topic. As opposed to what? Do you LIKE being a mechanic? It's an honest living earned by hard work. And if you enjoy doing it, who cares what anyone else thinks?

1 yHell to the fucking no!!! As a teacher I'm so tired of this bull shit that everyone should go to college!! Learning a trade is just as smart and noble! The hardest question is do you want to work for someone or open you're own shop. Good luck!!

1 yNo, it can be highly lucrative providing you keep up to date with all the technology that goes into cars these days!
00 Reply423 opinions shared on Education & Career topic. Over here you can make a lot of money if you work for yourself. If you work at a really busy shop and receive what they call "flat rate" pay instead of hourly pay, you can also make a lot of money if you're fast and good.
