What's my teacher asking us to do?

Did she put this in as a graded assignment? Or just access to the PDF? Looks like you'll be reading Romeo and Juliet! It's really a great story!
In the school I taught at we did the modern movie remake of Romeo and Juliet after reading the book that is absolutely fantastic cuz it's set among gangs in modern-day LA. Plus it has a very young Leonardo DiCaprio in it!
Romeo Juliet" (1996), directed by Baz Luhrmann. This adaptation modernizes Shakespeare's classic play by setting it in a contemporary urban environment, specifically "Verona Beach," California, while retaining the original dialogue.
In this version, the Montagues and Capulets are portrayed as rival mafia families, with Leguizamo playing Tybalt, a hot-headed member of the Capulet family. The film is known for its vibrant visual style, fast-paced editing, and a soundtrack that reflects the 90s culture. It features a talented cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo and Claire Danes as Juliet, and is celebrated for making Shakespeare's work accessible to a modern audience while maintaining the emotional intensity of the original story.
The Broadway musical (and later movie ) West Side Story was based on Romeo and Juliet. In this case it was two rival street gangs; one Puerto Rican, the other American ethnic. The Juliet character, Maria, was from a Puerto Rican family and her brother was the head of the gang. Tony, I think a Polish kid, was from the American gang. It follows the Shakespeare story very closely. The songs used to be very popular, but sort of faded after the late 1960s.
@Keyboardkat Oh, no. West Side Story is alive and well. One of my new favorite actresses just performed the role in the most recent 2021 film by Steven Spielberg. It's a classic.

She wants you to read through it, I suggest reading it and looking at things from both sides of the play, also watch a decent online RSC version. There are nuances within the play that appear in a lot of modern plays and movies, a lot of stuff is based on R&J.
Here a decent link

Just glance over it. She said you'll be reading it together in class. You'll likely be writing an essay on it, so I'd watch the Franco Zeffirelli version and the DiCaprio/Danes one and/or listen to an audio dramatization. DiCaprio is more modernized, but uses the original play if I recall correctly.
West Side Story is a good spin-off version, and if you really want to go crazy, watch the Margot Fonteyn/Rudolph Nureyev Romeo and Juliet ballet. It's a masterpiece.
It is a play you will read in class together. She most likely has assignments which will reference the play. So, I advise taking notes as you guys read it in class, and highlight what you feel is important.

Well she states that you will be reading it in class. She’s not saying to read it on your own. I don’t see her asking for you to do anything. I don’t see those words anywhere.
maybe just go over it just in case. But her wording is bad if she is actually asking you guys to read it because it doesn’t imply that anywhere. Assignments should be clear.
It sounds like your teacher wants you to read the play _Romeo and Juliet_.
After the play's been read, and gone over in class, your teacher is probably going to assign a project or a paper or something involving the play. That's what the "future references" is about.
I wouldn't know either other than something trite like it is a love story. guess you should read and make some general comment like 'boring'
If only they had GAG back in the day, a little advice from us and it wouldn't have ended so badly.
Watch West Side Story and then read Romeo and Juliet. I'll just bet you might find some parallels in there. Or, buy an old copy of Cliff notes.
Your teacher is asking you to think, by the way.
Read the play. It's short, won't take but an hour or so.
You’re doing a play you must remember the lines. I’ve done that in school before.
I think he just want you to read it? And they will go over it in class
Your English teacher needs to brush up on English grammar fr...
I think you need to brush up on your English grammar first.
@Jejdjdejwifujejwdi if you can't read the teacher's paragraph and immediately see the issue, then I don't know what to tell you
doesn' tlook like it's anything. you'll read it in class
She wants you to reed the plays script
Memorise the story for class 🤐
