Why do people work these crummy jobs unless they're really young?

I was at a casino the other day for an event, and you see these middle aged people as bartenders or waiting, etc. I mean it is pretty sad because I doubt this is what they'd prefer to do with their life. Meanwhile worthless people like the Kardashians are billionaires.

People need to make money somehow and not every job out there is going to be a career office job with great benefits and a 401k. They may not have the education or skill set to do anything else. Or maybe they just like doing that kind of work because they like socializing. Who knows?

If you look around at the supermarkets retail stores and other type of forward facing customer service, you'll see that it's increasingly middle-aged and elderly because Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and the retirees have in budgeted enough for their retirement. I agree with you the Kardashians are the epitome of worthlessness but "universal truth is not measured in mass appeal".

the way our society is set up, says that they deserve to have tons of money and live super lavishly. why? it’s completely unfair. At least other really wealthy people actually made contributions that improved peoples lives.

No they deserve to have dignity, leisure, healthcare, some nice things like travel or entertainment. Not lavish but with the dignity and gravitas they had while saving and working

older people work because need $ to survive, pay insurance. you wouldn't believe how badly the govt has stolen our savings you'll believe it when you are older. A lot of people worked all life and if didn't do well in the markets or have some big pension... they are toast and barely survive.

Some people do not get to go to college and end up in soul sucking boring jobs. Sometimes people do not care about a career and just see a job as a way to make money or some people just do not get the right break.
