I never went to college, and went to work for a company at 17. I've been there ever since, and I just do it because it's a job. I wish I was passionate about what I do, but I'm not. It pays "okay" but not enough for me to live on my own. And despite a decade or so of working there, my raises are pretty much non-existent because they disappear when I swap departments to keep things fresh. Currently I maintenance vehicles, and I'm not even a car guy.

I've attempted to seek employment elsewhere but I just don't have the moxie to commit to another interview. I will say I do enough to get by at work, and if I was on a team of 20 people I'd be considered 5th best, if I had to estimate it. Getting lost in the work makes the day go by but I will say I do not consider this a career and I'm not sure I'll ever have one. Any jobs I do consider to be interesting or fun simply don't pay enough for me to consider doing those. And I do not feel valued for my tenure, making maybe 30 more cents than any new-hire.

I guess I'm used to being dissatisfied about it, but it would be a miracle if everyone was energized by their occupation.

I retired in July and I am teaching part time. I really like it. i always said if I had it to do over again Iwould come back as a college professor. This opportunity came up just before covid happened so I decided to take it.

I love what I do, I'm passionate about the children's wellbeing, development and the requirement for me to keep on being curious and seek knowledge. I'm in it for the long haul. At least for the next 8 years, where my first contact child turns 18 and moves on.

However, the welfare system is in shambles - we need to constantly work more for less resources, run faster and do more practical, more documentations - while the children we get in are more complex than before. Which is why I might be studying further (within my field) after these 8 years.

Everyone who I work with are dedicated to their work or we wouldn't be there.

Social educator/carer is what I usually refer to myself as in English, I do social work - so social worker is fitting too.

In just the last 10 years alone the quality of work, no matter what the field, has taken steep nosedive

expectations are lowered and you just have to live with reduced quality and productivity by default

No one takes ownership and accountability anymore. Entitled pricks skirt away doing the bare minimum and doing a half-assed job at whatever their task is.

I dunno, my industry is pretty competitive but I’m at a small family company. Entire admin/management is family and not one of them has a clue or care what they’re doing

I'm very happy with my job

I'm 58 years old and have about 6 years until retirement

I feel lucky to still enjoy my work as a software developer

I can last another 6 years no problem

Oh yeah I should add, I'm paid pretty good and that's critical to enjoying my job
