I believe it really started to go downhill for late-Millenials and GenZers for sure. There was such a strong emphasis on standardized testing and strict curriculums, so much that soft skills, socioemotional developmental skills, and interpersonal skills were severely neglected.

Employers often complain GenZ lacks professionalism and other soft skills. This is why. We were raised to sit at desks, do independant schoolwork, and have a 30-minute lunch break. Recess ended in the 5th grade, so that was one less opportunity to freely socialize with peers.

In addition, we have seen a rise in Autistic Spectrum Disorders and psychological disorders over the many years.

I most certainly agree with eliminating the US Dept of Education. I am onboard. They were a huge reason for the decline of the education system. To me, this was too much federal overreach into state affairs.

I would say that G W Bush is where it really started to get bad, with his "No Child Left Behind" policy, because that's when it basically turned into "Fuck it, pass them anyway. Who cares if they're stupid?" even if that wasn't the Act's original purpose.

It started long before that, though. I saw it when I was going through school in the 90's. An unfortunate percentage of students in my grade couldn't read worth a damn, even in high school, and it always made me cringe.

I think the root cause, though, is the US approach to academics. We care far, far too much about standardized test scores. When those scores are how schools are graded, it creates a culture of memorization. The end result is to pass those tests, so they only care if students retain enough facts to pass, and then forget them afterwards.

There's not nearly enough focus on retaining basic knowledge, or learning critical thinking. It's all learning by rote, instead of actually UNDERSTANDING what you're learning. If you don't understand it, then you haven't really learned it. You've just memorized it so you can pass the next test.

It also doesn't help that parents aren't always invested in their child's education, either. They figure that's the teacher's job, so they abdicate their responsibility for their child's education. They're either too busy, too lazy, or just don't care enough.

That, and a lot of parents have forgotten everything they learned in school, because... that's right, they only memorized it, and never actually learned it. This just leads to a cascading effect, where each subsequent generation is just a bit dumber than the one before them.

No because as a private tutor i saw "teens who try did succeed" and public schools produce some good students, but most teens are lazy and shoot themselves in the leg.

At least good until 2008, then obama made changes, but not decades.

Yes. The US education system has failed you. Children of the US are taught to conform, listen to authorisaties and not question what is taught.

The rise in autism, skizofreni, ADHD and things like that is due to the increase in age people become parents at. Just because male can keep on impregnate women doesn't mean they should. My parents had me when they were under the age of 25. I was a very fucked up kid growing up, and I still have plenty of issues today at age 30. I have been hospitalized involuntarily countless times. I have never been able to maintain stable employment. I have severe mental illness, including but not limited to Bipolar Disorder.

I am suspicious about the vaccines we were given as children, among other potential problems such as foreign medications and consumables. Lead exposure and microwaves were yet another concern.
