We went from no child left behind to who cares about these kids. In your opinion what went wrong, and what are some ways you would be able to fix it if you had the chance too? Also, in your opinion where do you see the education system in the next couple of years/in the near future?
American education has been on a downhill slide my entire life. It was already considered to be bad when I was a child. It’s way worse now. There are many problems. Teachers lack the ability to discipline unruly kids, and many are undisciplined. Classical education was abandoned long ago due to the theories of people like John Dewey, so the curriculum is soulless, with subjects taught as disconnected topics with no relation to each other. Our education “experts” embrace failed theories even when they conflict with neuroscientific research, so we get repeatedly failed curricula like “whole language” and “whole math.” There is resistance to tried and true techniques like rote memorization because they are deemed to be “patriarchal” and “oppressive.” The typical classroom has children arranged in circles or “pods” instead of well ordered rows facing the teacher. This is meant to avoid hierarchy. Also, there is crap all over the walls in all directions. It is no wonder that many kids have trouble focusing in these classrooms. The classrooms are chaotic, chaotic behavior is tolerated or out of control. This cannot succeed. However, it is what our filthy elites (may they be cleared out) want for everyone else’s children.
Covid was an excuse to gut the public school system. Schools were closed for 2 years and the on line classes were a joke. The teachers union pushed to extend the lock downs and since they are major donors to democrats Biden went along with it. Kids have lost two years of education and no plans have been made to mke it up. Instead school systems that require a standardized test to graduate want to eliminate it because they know that a lot of kids will not be able to pass it.
I blame Biden and the teachers unions. States like Florida that had no lockdowns will produce the next generation of doctors and engineers.

The problem is too many classes have several kids who drag everyone else down.
The blame lies entirely with their parents anti education mindset. They teach their kids no one can tell you what to do or think. You can give these kids the best books and teachers but it won't make a blind bit of difference.
The solution isn't to help them catch up its to simply kick them out of education and use them as cheap manual labour.
No it hasn't failed. It's done exactly what it's supposed to do.
1. It's a babysitting service so both parents can work and be taxed.
2. It's to prepare kids for entering the workforce such factories.
3. It's designed to indoctrinate kids on whatever social and moral policy the government approves of.
4. It provides just enough education for a minimum wage job.
5. It keeps the masses ignorant.
Don't rely on schools. Teach your kids yourselves.

Yea, the education system is trash. More indoctrination than actually learning how to be productive and helpful members of society. Teachers are not good at what they do (a handful of them are, but the rest I don't know why they got into teaching in the first place. It’s definitely not the money) and students lack drive to learn (which is still partially on the teachers to do that). The older generation has failed to make sure that everything moves in a better direction. Is it all there fault, no, younger Gen needs to take some accountability and responsibility for some of this. But they can only learn how to do that from the older gen like us. And most of us don’t take responsibility for that either.
Everyone needs to do and be better all the way around.
Its criminally underfunded, unless you are born wealthy you can't get a good school education, thusly limiting yout chances for any succes, trapping you in poverty and your children will beginn the circle again.

yes it has. the blame goes to those who want to engage in leftist identity politics where a particular gender, race or sexuality requires more attention and empowerment while everybody else is "privileged" and needs to be demoralized for their achievements
Yes, it has. Because the failing schools fudged the numbers because the teachers and administrators didn't want to be held accountable and lose their jobs. And the kids aren't held accountable for behaving in class, either, because their parents enable them. The whole situation is rotten to its core.
This is why we need school choice.
The system fails (present tense) because the parents don’t back up their child’s education. Or care to. Parents are expecting teachers and schools to take their children away for 5 hours teach only what their religion wants and then drop them back off with no homework. Sorry. Doesn’t work that way.
Why the fuck should we blame anyone? The system itself is a very old very outdated model of just general schooling. Eu school constantly gives kids specializations skills in areas where they excel. And their breaks are long enough for kids to get jobs for the other half of the year they aren't in school.

Government. You can't really blame the teachers because if they teach traditional values like the ABC's vs CRT to 2nd graders the higher ups who take bribes from Government will fire them

The purpose of most schools is to teach people to stop asking unsanctioned questions and just do what they are told.

Yes. Probably the teachers union; but definitely the federal government played a large part in it.
