Government employees must decide by 5 o'clock on Monday whether of not they will take the buyout deal of 8 months salary and resign or stay and take their chances that they will not be one of the people that get fired.

Buyouts are nothing new. As far as I know they work pretty well. But these people were not given long to decide and I suspect that will decrease the number of people who take it. I think the numbers they are hoping for are pretty ambitious and they won't get that many.

There are a couple types of buyouts, and this one is aimed at almost everyone. Some buyouts are for early retirement and aimed at older and more expensive workers. But federal employees no longer have a pension so retirement buyouts don't make as much sense.

I'd love to see them hit their numbers, but I doubt if they will.

Trump is too generous, as they say, " to a fault". Why more than half year? For an inefficient swollen misorganiz! Need to fire probably 60 to 70% so need some business advisors... less authority allows less people, less salary lists, so less taxes.

But they're not getting fired, they're been made redundant which surely comes with a redundancy package. You'll get a little extra for volunteering that's all.

The UK government does exactly the same with the civil service every few years. Usually its people close to pension age that take the deal. Ironically it gets rid of the more experienced staff leaving the fuckwits in charge and they usually have to recruit enough masse a year later. It's only got one function and that'd so a minister can boast he made big cuts but the publics kept in the dark about re recruitment.

Anyway you look at it these people are sitting ducks but only have themselves to blame.

@Wiredone nobody will miss these people. The payrolls are bloated with layer after layer of administrators. They spend most of their day calculating how much money they will get from their pensions.

Getting a one time payment instead of a job is only worth it if you already have a good alternative job lined up. Otherwise you're just sabotaging yourself.
