Not less punishment- to be clear. But FORCE inmates to learn. And crack down on 'bulling" and "gangs".
Schools don't just toss their legally mandated attendants into a giant well.

Why are Trumpists trying to erase public education as we speak? GOP dpesn't want people ducated any further educated than necessary after all, certain produce can't be picked manually we need American citizens to be made to actually want the jobs that all those being deported were performing, and cheaply. they privatize the prisons, a monthly fee paid to the prison for each detainee and then pay each prisoner $2 a week to pick cabbage or make McDonalds uniforms... whatever. They sre released from incarceration and have very little money so they re-offend... perfect endless profitable circle for the ghoulish oligarchs. Makes them money with little or no effort.
In the USA rich people make a shitton of money with prisonlabour in their private prisons.
If you were to educate people, you risk a lower crimerate and this would cause empty prisons and lower profits.
It's moving that way in the UK with the emphasis being more on education and training rather than just punishment. But end of the day you can't polish a turd.
The real problem with criminals is their mindset has already been set by their families and peers years before they get to prison. Not only do they not grasp it's wrong to steal, rape, kill etc, they can't understand why other people don't.
You can't force anyone to learn.
And with what I know about the American prison system then it isn't exactly set up for rehabilitation but for punishment and profit.
Transforming prisons into environments that emphasize education can positively impact inmates. By mandating educational programs, prisons can provide inmates with valuable skills and knowledge, which can aid in rehabilitation and reduce recidivism. Addressing issues like bullying and gangs within this context would further create a safer, more constructive environment. This approach requires commitment and resources, but the long-term benefits—such as decreasing crime rates and helping individuals reintegrate successfully into society—make it worthwhile. Offering education and support can turn incarceration into an opportunity for growth and change.

Just maybe, fully grown criminals will not learn things as willingly as a bunch of 13 year olds
i think it's a great idea! but they already have this.
When you have liberals running schools that's exactly what you get.
Blue states pay for prisons were they put minorities their school system has failed. Blue states are too busy blowing their money on woke shit rather than taking care of their citizens, like california Democrats who met to put $50 million aside to fight trump while california was on fire.
That sounds like a great idea
