Did I screw myself by not reading the employee handbook?

I got a job at taco bell. They sent me an email with a bunch of stuff I had to sign. Including the employee handbook. I glanced at it. My case manager was helping me fill the stuff out, and she said most people don't read it. It would have taken Me like an hour so I just carried on. Well, I was gonna fo back to the email on my own time and read it, but now it won't show up. I know a lot of it is common sense stuff, but I know there is stuff in their that they'd expect me to know. now im afraid ill get fired for doing the wrong thing. I am very forgetful so I could just Say that if they ask why I'm not doing something that was in the handbook. I'm just kind of surprised my case manager told me I didn't need to read it.

I would just Google taco bell handbook but I'm sure they aren't all the same.

read it in your own time. but you should know their rules.

they have to deal with all sorts of types of people and they have a reputation to maintain. you should be thinking about that, not yourself...

Likely they will not fire you for a minor offense that’s covered in the handbook and instead may give you a warning. Are you on a 60 day probation to start the job? You could still read the handbook this week

I think ill just say that I forgot some stuff in the handbook and I can't access it on my email so I'll ask for a copy.

That or just ask your manager for an updated copy of the employee handbook. Handbooks may be updated annually as laws and regulations change so in a sense you are asking for the latest version of it.
