Understand why the child lashed out this way. Make the child understand why it was wrong. Two wrongs don't make a right. You are the teacher and the role model in this situation. Stay calm and lead by example. You could be the "best" role model this kid ever had in there life and they truly may not know better. Being the teacher I say you teach the kid right from wrong. In my opinion punishment for punishment justifies the hurting. Show another way a better way. We can heal the world or fight about how. I try to fix problems by being calm and aware of everything. I believe when everyone wants to do the right thing that what makes life works best. Some people just get lost along the way

Hit them back harder, and throw them out of school. In some cases, talk some sense into them and make them understand... like based upon age and such. My wife has kids like this, she handles them well. But in high school... diff deal.
